UK driving test booking rules have become much stricter since 12 May 2026.
What has changed?
Only the learner driver is allowed to book, change, swap, or cancel their practical car driving test.
Learners must not:
* Use third-party apps, websites, or automated services that search for available test appointments.
* Give their personal details to another person or service to manage bookings on their behalf.
* Book tests through people advertising on social media.
What happens if a learner breaks the rules?
The agency states that it may:
1. Suspend the learner’s ability to manage their booking online.
* Future changes would have to be made by phone.
2. Cancel the learner’s existing test booking.
3. Take further action where misuse or breaches of the booking terms are identified.
What learners should do
The guidance is straightforward:
* Do not use unofficial driving test booking apps or websites.
* Do not use social media sellers or intermediaries.
* Only use GOV.UK to book or manage driving tests.
Practical implication
Anyone currently using services that automatically monitor cancellations and book earlier test slots for them could be at risk of losing online booking access or having their test cancelled if the service is detected and deemed to breach the terms and conditions.
The overall aim is to reduce bulk booking, automated slot searching, and reselling of test appointments so that available tests are distributed more fairly among learners.
