We were proud to take part in the Fascination of Plants family science day held at Duthie Park Winter Gardens in Aberdeen.
The event brought together plant scientists and researchers from across the city to engage visitors through interactive workshops, hands-on activities and conversations exploring the importance of plant science and its impact on our everyday lives.
With more than 667 visitors attending throughout the day, the event provided a fantastic opportunity to inspire curiosity, share research and connect with families and the wider community through accessible and engaging science activities.

Researchers, land managers, students and community members from across the rural sector are set to come together at this year’s Future Landscape Conference to explore collaborative approaches to environmental and land management challenges.
Hosted by our School of Natural and Social Sciences at the Barony campus, the conference will feature guest speakers, workshops, panel discussions, trade stalls, poster presentations and networking opportunities focused on building resilient futures through collaboration and innovation.
The event will highlight the opportunities created through stronger partnerships both within the School and across the wider rural sector. Current contributors include representatives from Peatland ACTION, SRUC Rural Policy Centre and Dr Marie Martin from Community Land Scotland, with further speakers to be announced.

Wildlife and Conservation student Miroslav Podrabsky from our Aberdeen campus has been selected for the 2026 Converge KickStart Challenge with his project, North-Eat Mushroom Company (NEMC).
NEMC is transforming locally sourced hardwood sawdust into gourmet mushrooms while exploring innovative mycelium-based materials - creating circular economy model that supports sustainability and rural enterprise.
Congratulations to Miroslav on this fantastic achievement. We look forward to following the journey ahead.

HNC Agriculture students have been busy building bee hives as part of their practical classes.
The project will see new bee hives introduced into Rob’s Garden, helping to support pollinators while creating exciting new learning opportunities within the outdoor classroom space.
A huge thank you to Boskalis for funding the project and providing five full bee hives along with five colonies of bees.

Congratulations to SRUC students Erin McGuire and Gemma Ambrose on their success at this year’s prestigious Pinnacle Awards finals in London.
Agriculture student Erin McGuire achieved the Bronze Award and received ÂŁ600 after presenting proposed business and sustainability improvements for an Aberdeenshire farm visited as part of a third-year Agriculture module. Fellow SRUC student Gemma Ambrose was also recognised as one of just eight finalists selected for the highly competitive national awards programme.
Hosted at The Farmers Club, the Pinnacle Awards bring together some of the UK’s most promising agriculture students to demonstrate their consultancy, business analysis and problem-solving skills before a panel of leading academics and industry professionals.
