Last week, OPITO was proud to participate in Oil And Gas Asia (OGA) 2026, exhibiting within the UK Pavilion by Energy Industries Council (EIC) where the team engaged with stakeholders from across the energy value chain. As one of Asia's most influential energy events, OGA brings together industry professionals, technology providers, policymakers and business leaders from across APAC to exchange ideas, build partnerships and shape the future of the region's energy landscape.

The event provided a valuable opportunity for OPITO to strengthen partnerships, engage new organisations and contribute to discussions on workforce competence, skills development and collaboration across safety-critical industries. Allowing the team to detail OPITO's role as the global skills authority, highlighting internationally recognised standards and workforce development solutions that support a safe, skilled and competent workforce across the Asia Pacific region.

Beyond industry engagement, our exhibition pod also became a valuable opportunity to introduce a wider audience, including students, early-career professionals and those exploring opportunities within the energy sector, to OPITO, My Energy Future, and the career pathways available across the industry's evolving landscape.

Many of these conversations naturally led to the upcoming OPITO Global 2026, taking place on 13-14 October in Kuala Lumpur, where industry leaders from oil and gas, LNG, mining, emerging technologies, and other safety-critical sectors will come together under the theme "A Shared Future of Safety: One Workforce. Many Sectors" to explore how collaboration can strengthen workforce safety, competence and resilience across the region and beyond.

Thank you to everyone who visited us during OGA 2026. We look forward to continuing the conversations, developing new partnerships, and welcoming many of you to OPITO Global 2026 next month.

The future of Sarawak’s energy sector will be powered by people as much as infrastructure. 🌏

In his recent article with Sarawak Tribune, CEO Stephen Marcos Jones highlights the critical role people will play in enabling the region’s energy transition. As projects such as the ASEAN Power Grid move from planning to delivery, success will depend on having a skilled, competent workforce that can adapt and transfer expertise across sectors and emerging technologies.

Building confidence in transferable skills through recognised standards, competency frameworks and quality assurance will be essential to supporting safe, efficient workforce mobility and meeting the pace of future energy demand.

Last week, the OPITO team was proud to enter into a Memorandum of Understanding with the Namibia Training Authority (NTA) at the British Embassy Madrid, marking the beginning of a strategic partnership to support workforce development in Namibia's growing energy sector.

As Namibia's energy industry continues to evolve, both organisations recognise that long-term success depends on developing the people who will power it. Through this partnership, OPITO and NTA will work together to strengthen skills, competence and training capability, helping to ensure the workforce is equipped to meet industry needs safely, effectively and sustainably.

Following the signing, OPITO and NTA held an implementation session to identify the first areas of practical collaboration. This included exploring how existing training capability can continue to evolve alongside the needs of Namibia's developing energy sector, helping to inform future priorities for skills, training and sustainable in-country capability.

By combining NTA's leadership in technical and vocational education and training with OPITO's global expertise in workforce development, safety and competence, the partnership will support local capability building, strengthen training capacity and create opportunities for future generations.

Together, we share a commitment to building a safe, skilled and competent workforce that is ready to support Namibia's long-term energy ambitions, both today and in the future. Through investment in skills, competence and workforce development, the partnership will help create opportunities for future generations while delivering lasting value for Namibia's people, industry and economy.

At OPITO Global 2026, we're looking forward to hearing from two keynote speakers whose careers have taken them in very different directions, but who share a common commitment to creating safer workplaces and stronger workforces. We're delighted to welcome David Lim and Jo Farrell as keynote speakers to this years conference.

David's experiences leading teams in some of the world's most challenging environments, overcoming life-changing adversity and navigating high-risk situations have shaped his perspective on resilience, leadership and the importance of strong safety cultures.

Jo's path from apprentice carpenter to award-winning industry leader and founder of Build Like A Girl has focused on creating opportunities for others, building inclusive workplaces and strengthening the workforce needed to support industries into the future.

While their careers have followed very different paths, both reinforce a message that sits at the heart of this year's conference theme, "A Shared Future of Safety: One Workforce. Many Sectors."

Join us in Kuala Lumpur this October as industry leaders come together to explore the challenges and opportunities shaping the future of safety across sectors. 🌏
