Continuing our efforts to strengthen our presence across North America, OPITO's Product Development Manager, Laura McNaughton, recently travelled to our Houston Centre of Excellence, where she connected with our North America team and Training Centres across the region.
During her visit, the team hosted our Americas Training Centre Forum, bringing the community together and providing a valuable opportunity to strengthen collaboration, share insight, and ensure alignment across our global network.
A highlight of the visit was engaging with Noble Corporation to explore the evolving role of technology in training and assessment, and the innovative approaches shaping workforce competence and safety, something we are actively progressing at OPITO as we explore how technology can be integrated into our training standards.

This week we were pleased to host our first Industry Forum in Madrid, bringing together partners from across the region to discuss strengthening workforce capability and safety in support of energy and decarbonisation goals. 🌍
Hosted by Hazel Lince, VP Strategic Partnerships (UK & Europe), the session provided an open and collaborative platform to explore shared challenges, evolving industry requirements and opportunities for alignment.
Discussions focused on advancing safety culture, improving the application of HSE in real-world settings, and ensuring training standards remain practical, relevant and globally recognised. There was clear consensus on the importance of collaboration, innovation in training delivery and early engagement to build safer, more competent workforces.
Our Industry Forums are designed to connect industry, regulators and employers, supporting meaningful dialogue, shared insight and practical outcomes that reflect real operational needs.

Last week, VP Strategic Partnerships UK & Europe, Hazel Lince, and Product Development Manager, Laura McNaughton, represented OPITO at EEEGR (East of England Energy Group)’s SNS 2026 in Norwich.
Across two days of collaboration and knowledge sharing, we engaged with partners from across the sector, reinforcing our shared focus on building a safe, competent and future-ready workforce. As SNS marks its 25th anniversary, this year’s theme provided a valuable moment to reflect on progress across the region and look ahead to the next phase of growth and innovation in the energy sector.
A key highlight was our panel session, “The Tech-Enabled Workforce: Redefining Training and Competence for the Next Decade,” exploring how technology is transforming skills, training and workforce readiness. Thank you to our panellists, Rachel Bunn, Nicola Sewell and Ian Smith for their valuable and insightful contributions.
We were also proud to support emerging talent through our College Challenge with finalists from East Coast College, East Norfolk Sixth Form College and City College Norwich. The standard was exceptional, showcasing the potential of the future energy workforce and making the final decision a difficult one.
