Aberdeen University All-Round Fighting Club (AUARFC) is a martial arts club with a difference. Our principle is: if it works in the real life, then it’s good. That’s why we don’t discriminate: striking, grappling, wrestling – we’ve got it all. More importantly though, we’ve got the people with the skills to teach it;

Presenting a bit of University history!

Entitled: The First Rule Of Fight Club? And written in the paper edition of the Guadie (2 March 2010), by the club's co-founder Stanislaw Swieciki. Stan (as we know him) would also go on to conceive and name SMMART (Scottish Mixed Martial Arts Rookie Tournament) - at one time one of the largest true amateur tournaments. Stan went on to be part of the script writing teams for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt (2015), Cyberpunk 2077 (2020) and Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty (2023). Incredible! Text from the article below:

"On the 11th of February 2010 the first training session of the Aberdeen University All-Around Fighting club took place. Over seventy people turned up and while the only problem was finding space for everybody, it showed us that many students are interested in training in the pragmatic martial art and that university grounds may be very promising for the fastest growing sport in the world.

But what is the ARFC?

Well there are many answers to this question: it is part of Team Jigoku one of the best MMA teams in Scotland, it is part of the International Kyokushin Budokai Kan (IBK) etc - but this doesn't really explain much to the martial arts layman.

The truth is that the core of our club is the approach to martial arts developed by our coach - Shihan (Japanese for 'grand master') Marc Howes. Shihan holds four black belts in different styles of full-contact karate and has over 30 years experience in coaching - his martial arts philosophy inspired by Kaicho Jon Bluming, of whom he is a direct student concentraces on embracing the force of pragmatism but does so without dropping the Budo - the very principles of Japanese martial arts.

That is why this is the 'All-Around Fighting Club' and not the 'MMA Club' for example Mixed Martial Arts is a conjunction a sport in which different traditions of fighting compete with one another without any restrictions in this sense it is the most appropriate challenge for any martial artist seeking universality. All-Round Fighting or Kyokushin Budokai, if you prefer, is something more than that. You can join our club regardless of what your interest is be itself defense physical prowess studying a traditional form of martial arts or competing in a more modern fighting format such as MMA tournaments our coaches have got it all.

we train at the Aberdeen Sports Village every Tuesday (7pm - 8.30pm) and Thursday (7pm - 8pm), so come by if you're interested. All you need for a start is a pair of shorts and a comfortable t-shirt. For more for more information you can visit our website at www.allroundfighting.blogspot.com or join our group on Facebook (group name: Aberdeen University All-Round Fighting Club). Also answering two of the most common questions we get: yes you can join if you're a girl, some of our coaches are female no, you don't have to be very fit to start training with us - just come to training, let us worry about your fitness.

Hit hard, roll strong."
