If your child has any of the signs or symptoms of diabetes, you should take them straight to the doctor and insist on a blood glucose test.
The most common symptoms of type 1 diabetes in children are known as the 4 T’s:
🚽 Toilet - Going to the toilet frequently to pass urine, bed wetting by a previously dry child or heavier than normal nappies in babies.
💦 Thirsty - Being thirsty and unable to quench the thirst, asking for drinks more often and finishing quickly.
💤 Tired - Feeling more tired than usual. Having less energy than normal, not playing as often, less energy for sports.
🪞 Thinner - Losing weight or looking thinner than usual.
You may also notice your child getting more infections than usual.
Type 1 diabetes is the most common type of diabetes in children. Symptoms tend to come on within a matter of days or weeks and you should get urgent medical help if you notice any of these symptoms.
Symptoms of type 2 diabetes in children are the same but may be less obvious and develop more slowly, over weeks or months, but you may still be able to notice them.
Please see your GP as quickly as possible if you suspect your child may be diabetic. A quick and simple finger prick test will indicate or rule out high blood sugar and your GP will refer you to a specialist diabetes team or hospital while you are awaiting a diagnosis.

🌭🍿🍇🍌 Choking Prevention Matters 🍌🍇🍿🌭
When it comes to safety, prevention is key especially with food!
Did you know that round foods like grapes and banana slices are just the right size to block a child’s airway completely? 😧
⚠️ Whole grapes, popcorn, and even circular cuts of hot dogs or bananas can be serious choking hazards particularly for young children.
✅ Simple fix: Instead of round slices, cut these foods lengthwise into quarters or strips. This small change greatly reduces the risk of choking and helps keep little ones safer while they eat.
Because knowing how to respond in an emergency is important but knowing how to prevent one? Even better. 💪

It’s Scorchio out there so I thought I’d share a post from last year that encouraged you to “SAVE this post if you are heading off on your summer holidays soon!” It’s probably cooler in hades at the moment!
Hoping it might be useful as it features a super handy guide* to what clothing and bedding is suitable for your baby in warmer temperatures 🌡️

Have you considered how visible your child would be under the water in different coloured swimsuits and trunks?
We share this graphic every summer as it's such a brilliant example of how a small change in what you dress your child in at the pool could make a huge difference.
The brilliant team at Aquatic Safety Connection has tested how different colours appear in various water types and states, such as swimming pools, choppy waters, and murky ponds and lakes.
You can see from this image that white and light blue are almost invisible to the eye when at the bottom of a pool with agitated water. Dark colours are visible but can sometimes be mistaken for shadows or pool equipment.
Something to consider when you are next shopping for summer swimwear, opt for bright and contrasting colours!

⁉️Childhood diabetes - recognise the symptoms⁉️
Diabetes Week is 9-15 June 2025 and aims to raise awareness of this complex disease. With UK diabetes rates rising for both type 1 and type 2 diabetes, it’s important to be able to recognise the signs and symptoms so that you can get your child treated quickly
When diabetes is left unchecked it can cause long term complications to children's health, so fast diagnosis is really important. Luckily, one of our former Mini First Aid franchisees Michelle Dady is a Paediatric Diabetes Specialist Nurse so we’ve got all the information you need to know.

💙Can you help us make a difference?💙
I'm reaching out to my amazing network to ask if anyone could donate a top prize for the Grampian MS Therapy Centre Golf Day – something truly special we can feature in our charity auction to raise as much as possible for this fantastic cause, which is very close to my heart 💙
The centre opened in 1983 to provide oxygen therapy for people with MS in the north east of Scotland. Over the years, the services have expanded to include reflexology, KCR, physiotherapy, and massage therapy, not just for people with MS, but also those living with fibromyalgia, cancer, burns, and sports injuries.
By donating a prize, you’ll not only help support this vital work, but your business will receive prominent advertising and recognition on the day of the golf – a great opportunity to give back and gain exposure.
If you or someone you know might be able to help, I’d love to hear from you. Thank you in advance for your support!
Either get in touch with myself Sarah Phillips directly, or give Grampian Multiple Sclerosis Therapy Centre a call 01224 771105.
