Not all assessment frameworks are created equal.

The Polar Tourism Guides Association assessment works because it doesn’t just tell you whether you passed, it shows you where you are right now, and where to focus next. It’s rigorous, it’s honest, and it’s built around genuine self-reflection. That’s what makes it useful long after the course ends.

We’ve been very deliberate with our training and focus on our Comprehensive Guide Course and subsequent assessments. Guides deserve a framework that takes their development seriously.

Day 4 of our CGC and we were stoked to be out on the water all day.

Situational awareness, navigation with GPS and compass, Zodiac beach approaches and departures, and a deep dive into what it actually means to work safely as a shore party when conditions start pushing back.

Content rich. Great group. Happy days.

Before day one even begins, the experience has already started. A quick tour of where CGC-20 will live for the next ten days, and why shared space is part of how we teach.

More raw clips from our latest Polar Bear Safety course. Three days, twelve current and aspiring professionals, and some serious leaps in knowledge and confidence.

We love watching it click.

Every participant leaves with a framework that’s genuinely theirs, built around their experience, their group, their environment.

See you out there. 🐾

This autumn, we’ve built something we’re genuinely proud of.

For the first time, our August and September course window opens up a full training arc for expedition guides. From technical rescue to cornerstone skills to leadership to the human side of guiding.

Zodiac Rescue and First Aid (ZRF)
25–28 August

Comprehensive Guide Course (CGC-21)
1–10 September

Soft Skills for Expedition Guiding (SSE)
with
13–14 September

We moved Soft Skills for Expedition Guiding out of mid-season on purpose, because we heard you. June doesn’t work when you’re on contract. September does.

Do one. Do two. Do all three.

Each course stands alone, but together they cover ground that very few training programmes anywhere come close to.

Spots are limited across all three. Link in bio to find out more. If you haven’t already, head over to our website and sign up for our newsletter.

Be your best guide.

A great weekend in Gothenburg with the 🇸🇪

We ran two bespoke sessions for their guides ahead of the season:
→ Heuristic traps in expedition cruise operations
→ Polar bear safety in expedition operations

Newer guides and well seasoned hands in the same room, working through the decisions guides actually face in the field. Their training lead called the sessions “a nice balance between practical and thought-provoking” which is exactly what we aim for.

Thanks Polar Quest. It was real pleasure.

We’ve got an update on Soft Skills for Expedition Guiding with Colby Brokvist. ✨

The course is moving to 13–14 September 2026.

We heard from a number of you that June sits right in the thick of the season for many guides, so we’ve shifted things to give more people a genuine window to join.

September feels like the right moment with contracts winding down, headspace opening up, and time to invest in the craft before the next season builds.

And for anyone already joining us for the Comprehensive Guide Course (1–7 September), Soft Skills runs in the same week, a natural way to make a full block of professional development out of it.

Colby brings a depth of experience to this that’s genuinely rare.

If professional development is on your list for 2026, we’d love to see you there.

Details in bio.

Two seats left. ✌️

Our February New Zealand course is nearly at capacity.

There is often a lot of hesitation in this industry. Waiting for the “right time,” waiting for the contract, waiting for the schedule to clear.

But momentum is everything.

Taking your slot in February means you are trained, assessed, and market-ready before the Northern Summer season even kicks off. You aren’t scrambling in May; you’re ready in March.

We have 2 spaces remaining for the Feb intake.

If you’ve been sitting on the fence, now is the time to jump.

A quick update from the New Zealand planning desk.

We’ve had a slight shuffle in the roster for our upcoming Comprehensive Guide Course (CGC) in mid-February.

Two candidates have had to withdraw, which means two unexpected spots have just opened up. Usually, by this time of year, the February squad is locked in and prepping. But for two people, this is a pretty unique timing window.

Training in Feb means you are field-ready just in time for the upcoming Arctic summer or the Kimberley season. It also gives you a massive head start on building your experience and CV before the recruitment drives really heat up for the Antarctic 26/27 season.

It’s a fast turnaround, but if you’ve been looking for a way to break into the industry (or upgrade your skills) without waiting another year, the door just cracked open.

For the right people who are ready to jump in, it’s an incredible opportunity.
