🌱 A little change to how we share…

We love capturing the little moments that make nursery life so special — the friendships, the fun, the discoveries and the proud moments that happen every day. 💕

Our families will, of course, continue to receive photographs and updates through our private nursery app, where we can share those special glimpses of their child’s time with us.

What we’re choosing to do differently is what we share publicly.

We’ve made the decision to no longer share identifiable photographs of the children on our social media.

This isn’t because we have less to celebrate — quite the opposite. ✨

It’s because we want to be increasingly mindful of children’s safety, privacy and their right to have a say in their own digital identity. Once an image is shared publicly, we can’t control where it goes or how it might be used, particularly in a world where technology and AI are developing so quickly.

We believe it’s our responsibility to think about that now, while our children are too young to make those choices for themselves.

So you’ll still see plenty of our nursery adventures — just captured a little differently.

The muddy hands. The masterpieces. The messy play. The friendships. The learning. The fun.🥰

Because we can celebrate everything that makes childhood wonderful, while keeping children’s identities private.

Same magic, Just shared more thoughtfully. 🌈

Due to staff going on Maternity Leave we are looking for a caring, enthusiastic and motivated Early Years Practitioner / Support Worker to join our friendly team at Friendship Rainbow. 💛

🏡 A little bit about us…

We’re a small, friendly, Hygge-inspired, home-from-home nursery based in the heart of Portlethen. Our aim is simple — to create a warm, welcoming environment where children feel safe, secure and confident to play, explore, learn and grow.

For many of our children, we are their first experience of being away from their parent or carer. We understand just how important those first experiences are, and our team work hard to make them positive, nurturing and full of opportunities for children to develop their confidence and independence.

Our days are filled with child-led play, creativity, stories, singing, outdoor adventures, curiosity and plenty of opportunities for children to make friends and discover what they can do.

👩‍🏫 About the role

We are looking for relief staff to join our team on an as-and-when-required basis, helping us cover staff absences and busy periods.

Our term-time sessions run:

🕘 9am–12pm
🕛 12pm–3pm
🌈 Full days available: 9am–3pm

We also offer holiday sessions from 8am–4pm during selected school holidays.

There is potential for around 30 hours per week, with additional opportunities for team meetings, training and professional development.

Importantly, our relief team are always the first to be considered for permanent positions as they become available, so this could be the start of something longer term as our service continues to grow.

💛 What we’re looking for

We’re looking for someone who is:

• Warm, friendly and approachable
• Enthusiastic about working with young children
• Patient, caring and genuinely interested in children's development
• Happy to get involved in children's play and get down on their level
• Passionate about encouraging independence and confidence
• A positive team player who is willing to learn
• Reliable, flexible and committed to providing high-quality care

Experience and relevant qualifications are advantageous but not essential.

Whether you’re already working in childcare, looking for a role that fits around family life, or considering a career in the Early Years sector for the first time, we’d love to hear from you.

Full training and support can be provided, as we are committed to the continual professional development of our team.

📚 The important bits

This is regulated work with children and the successful applicant will be required to:

✔️ Become a member of the PVG Scheme
✔️ Register with the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC)
✔️ Complete all appropriate checks and required training

What makes these nominations even more special is that they were made by our wonderful parents.💛

To know that our families have taken the time to recognise and nominate us for the work we do means more than we can put into words. It is a wonderful reminder that the little things we do every day really do make a difference.

Although we didn’t make it through to the finals, we are incredibly proud to have been recognised across three categories and will treasure these nominations.

A huge thank you to our parents for your continued support, trust and kind words, and to Early Years Scotland for celebrating the amazing work taking place across our sector.

🌈 Welcome Back! 🌈

And just like that, a new term begins!

We’re looking forward to welcoming back our returning children, as well as lots of new children embarking on their journey with us.

We’ve got lots planned for the term ahead and can’t wait to see the children back, making new friends, having fun, learning and creating lots of memories along the way.

And with that, in the blink of an eye, the end of the summer holidays. 🥹🌈

Goodbye and good luck to our 28 leavers who start their new adventures over the next few weeks, all of whom are more than ready to take on those exciting next steps as they have grown and flourished over the months — and for some, years — they have been with us.

We came as strangers, but we leave as friends. 🥰🌈

🌍 Around the World at Friendship Rainbow🌍

Over the last few weeks, through the children’s interests and curiosity about the world around them, we have been exploring different countries and learning about the wonderful ways people live, speak, and celebrate across different cultures.

We have been discovering countries including France, Italy, Scotland, India, Japan, and Poland. Together, the children explored where these countries are on the map, recognised and discussed their flags, listened to different languages, and even sampled some traditional foods from each country.

On Monday, we enjoyed a special walk to one of Portlethen’s new shops, Dino Market, which serves Polish delicatessen foods. The children loved looking around the shop and carefully choosing different foods to try back at nursery, including hams, cheeses, and breadsticks. Back at nursery, we enjoyed tasting the foods together while talking about Poland, learning to recognise the Polish flag, and practising how to say “Cześć” which is "hello" in Polish with help from some of our friends 😊

Following children’s interests in this way helps create meaningful learning experiences and encourages children to ask questions, share ideas, and explore the world around them with confidence.

Through these experiences, the children are becoming:

✨ Successful Learners – exploring new experiences, languages, and traditions
✨ Confident Individuals – sharing their thoughts and trying unfamiliar foods and experiences
✨ Responsible Citizens – developing respect and understanding for different cultures and communities
✨ Effective Contributors – working together, asking questions, and sharing ideas with their friends

We have had such a fun and exciting few weeks exploring the world together 🌎✈️

Waiting List Update 🌈

Everyone currently on our waiting list with a child turning 2 before mid-September has now been emailed. If you have not received a message from us, please check your spam or junk folder.

If you no longer require a space, we would appreciate you letting us know, as this helps reduce additional administration time and allows us to offer places to other families.

Our waiting list is always open, and it is never too early to register your child’s details. Planning ahead allows us to keep families as up to date as possible regarding future availability.

As a private setting, we are passionate about providing affordable childcare. This year, we have chosen not to increase our fees in order to continue supporting families in accessing childcare. We also do not charge additional consumable fees on top of your child’s session fees.
