Come and join me for an afternoon on Saturday 8th August at 12 noon, at Newport Cathedral with a zesty programme of Liszt ONLY, and for free to top it all off! This concert features some favourites among other lesser known works and I wish I could play more. The music of Franz Liszt has played a significant role in my life over the last eight months. On my way to give a ‘Viennese’ concert in Brighton to mark the bicentennial of Strauss II, I had a four hour car journey accompanied by the complete Hyperion recordings of Leslie Howard playing Liszt and was blown away by how many pieces I had never heard before. I immediately investigated his lesser known operatic transcriptions, chamber works, original piano works and religious compositions. The aid of Alan Walker’s monumental biography (still on the first book…) and study of these works prompted me to dedicate this year solely to one person, and what a life! Hope to see you there 😊🎹
