Martin Roberts, known for 'Homes Under the Hammer', has openly admitted to a "devastating blow" and confessed he feels he has "failed on every level" with his latest ambitious project: transforming a dilapidated Welsh pub, the Hendrewen Hotel in Rhondda Valley, into a holiday hotspot.

Despite having spent two years and an estimated £500,000 on the renovation, the property is still far from complete, with parts of the building reportedly close to collapse. Roberts had initially hoped to finish the eight-bedroom inn within a two-year timeline and budget.

He candidly told The Sun: "For a man who spends all his time telling people to make sure they stick to their budgets and timescales, I have failed on every single level." He attributed some of the challenges to the fact that it's his "first commercial property," which involves "a lot more complications" than residential renovations.

While he remains optimistic that the project, currently estimated to be around 60% complete, will "come together really quickly," he's faced numerous obstacles, including slanted walls, collapsing windows, bats nesting in a leaking roof, and ongoing issues with planning permissions due to flood risks.

The entire renovation process is being documented for a ten-part ITV series titled "Oops! I Bought A Pub," which is expected to air next year. Despite the setbacks, Roberts has expressed a commitment to the local community, working with local teenagers to provide them with construction skills and aiming to create employment for around 30 local residents once the pub is finished.

Well today we had our first parent 180 🎯 at Williamstown Primary School in the Rhondda plus some amazing darts from the young pupils. It was the last day and we thoroughly enjoyed our month with them. The FLIGHTSKILLZ programme has definitely improved the maths through a fun and engaging way.

We’ve done some great work with parents at Caegarw Primary School and Pontygwaith Primary School. New blackboards and a revamped parent area with one more session to go. Hopefully we can continue learning more REALSKILLZ into the summer.
