Learning from Urban Innovation and Urban Hacking in Amsterdam.
I warmly thank Frank Alsema for the insightful four-hour visit to Amsterdam, where we explored urban innovation initiatives. This visit was organized as part of a training session for a group of high-level employees from Riyadh City.
It was an enlightening experience that highlighted how collaboration between public authorities, citizens, and the economic sector can drive remarkable urban innovation. I discovered how the Dutch push the limits of urban innovation through 'urban hacking".
This visit is precious for those interested in urban innovation, living labs, and public-private citizen participation (PPCP).

Rencontre avec l’équipe de R-EVERLANDS ORGANIZATION à STATION-F.
J’ai été très heureux de rencontrer à la Station-F, le plus grand incubateur du monde, la start-up R-REEVLANDS qui porte un projet ambitieux pour lutter contre le changement climatique et améliorer les conditions d’accueil des réfugiées des conflits et du climat.
Des échanges riches et fructueux sur la résilience face au changement climatique et aux conflits et sur comment les systèmes intelligents (habitat, infrastructures d’eau et d’énergie, place publique, gouvernance, mobilité, éducation, santé, lutte contre les exclusions..) peuvent aider à atteindre les objectifs de la start-up.

Last week, I had an exciting and rich visit to China to discuss and explore the latest advances in implementing smart infrastructures. During this visit, I:
(i) Attended, as a co-chair of the scientific committee, the opening ceremony of the 5th Int. Symp. Smart Underground Space and Infrastructures (SUS Wuhan 2024), which I founded in 2016 with Professor Xie from Tongji University.
(ii) Gave the keynote lecture, “How could the smart city enhance urban sustainability and resilience?”
(iii) Visited Bluebee, a leading smart maintenance company (Shanghai).
(iv) Visited the Beihang University campus in Hangzhou to discuss the effective implementation of the smart campus concept, which we initiated at Lille University in 2010 through the SunRise Smart City project.
