Nailing the Pitcher Spout 🏺✨

The secret to a perfect pour? Stop pulling the clay! 🚫

As shown in the video, it’s all about rotation and a gentle downward pressure. If you pull the clay toward you, you’ll thin it out too much and risk creating small cracks. By guiding the clay with your index finger in a circular motion, the spout opens naturally on its own.

💡 Pro-Tips to Save:

Wet your finger: Always keep your guiding finger wet to avoid friction.

Rotate, don't pull: Move downward while rotating to let the clay lean outward.

Speed is key: Once you have the position, the final lift happens very quickly.

Emptying a fish has never been this satisfying... 🐟✨

Did you know you can create a perfectly hollow and lightweight ceramic piece without ever touching a slab? It’s all thanks to the magic of slip casting.

Here is how this fish comes to life in the studio:

1️⃣ The Impression: It all starts with a solid model. I take two plaster molds from it: one for the front and one for the back.
2️⃣ The Chemistry (The Secret): I use slip—liquid clay—but not just any kind. Thanks to a "deflocculant" (sodium silicate), the clay molecules stay separated. This allows the clay to stay liquid with almost the same low water content as plastic clay.
3️⃣ The Formation: I inject the slip into the closed mold. The plaster acts like a sponge, absorbing the water. After 30 minutes, a thin "crust" of clay forms against the walls.
4️⃣ The Reveal: I pour out the excess liquid, wait 4 hours... and open it! The fish emerges, perfectly formed and already hollow.

After drying completely, it goes into the kiln for the bisque fire, followed by glazing to give it its final colors. 🌈

✨ SESSION ÉMAILLAGE à l'

En 2026, on avance sur l'apprentissage de la pose de l'émail sur une pièce.

Cette semaine les élèves apprennent avec à poser un émail en "superposition complexe", c'est-à-dire à allier différentes techniques (trempage, pistolet...) en superposition pour créer des effets de profondeur.
.. C'est un peu la spécialité de Matthieu, ce qu'il aime par-dessus tout quoi 😊

Ici c'est la première étape du trempage, grâce aux pinces! 🔧

Nous terminons le cycle de présentation des enseignants avec: 🌿 Pierre de Quillacq

👉🏻arrivé en septembre 2025 au sein de l'équipe pédagogique de l’école Créamik.

🎓 Pierre s’est formé à la céramique auprès de l’école Créamik en 2022–2023, où il a obtenu le CAP Tournage en céramique en juin 2023.

À l’issue de sa formation, il a poursuivi sa pratique en développant une activité d’enseignement du tournage dans son propre atelier, l' .annpi, qu'il fonde à Noyalo avec Anna Rozier, camarade de promotion 👩🏻‍🎓

Fort de cette expérience de transmission et d’une pratique régulière du tournage, Pierre décide d'allier ses deux passions (céramique et pédagogie) en rejoignant l’équipe enseignante de Créamik en septembre 2025.

✨ À l’atelier, c'est une présence attentive sur laquelle les élèves peuvent compter! Son expérience d'élève de l'école Créamik lui apporte une compréhension profonde du chemin parcouru par les élèves durant cette année intensive de formation 😉

Son parcours illustre la continuité entre formation, pratique personnelle et transmission, au cœur du projet pédagogique de l’école.
