A huge thank you to our friends for stepping in to harvest some of the potatoes. 🥔❤️ (I stuck to supervising to keep the dust out of my lungs). Considering the scorching heat and almost no rain, we actually got a decent haul out of the rounds. The straw mulch really helped this year. After all the dusty work we tasted Glen’s incredible paella. Good food, great friends, and a little bit of dust.

Life throws curveballs. In June, I was hospitalised with severe chest inflammation, and I’ve been completely out of action ever since. This place doesn’t stop for sick days, and Glen has been carrying the entire load on his own.

Enter our incredible friends Ana Humljak and Mat. They didn’t just lend a hand – they gave up their final week of annual leave to be here, mucking in and keeping things running when we needed it most.

And it’s not just the farm work. Our wider community has been a lifeline too, dropping off food, visiting me in hospital, and showering us with love and support when we were running on empty.

We are so lucky to have people in our corner who understand that community isn’t just about the good times. It’s about showing up in the messy, exhausting moments too. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you. We couldn’t have this without you all. 🤍🙏

It’s with heavy hearts that we share the passing of our beautiful Golden Guernsey, Samson. Last Wednesday, we said our final goodbye to our gentle giant at the grand age of 15yrs. He spent 9 of those years right here with us.
Samson was a gentle soul. All he wanted was a good scratch, a cuddle, and his favorite goat muesli treat.
His lifelong partner, Eclipse, has been feeling the loss deeply. He spent the first few days wandering and calling out for his friend. We made sure Eclipse could stay close to Samson the night he passed until we laid him to rest the next afternoon. Eclipse stood guard, not moving far from his side.
We will miss our beautifully smelly boy more than words can say, but we are so grateful for the years we got to be his guardians. Rest easy, Samson.

This is peak summer for us it’s a blistering 36c outside Pork ribs on the braai, salads on the side, potatoes from the garden, and meat from our own permaculture farm. Hard work and community always tastes so good. So very thankful. ❤️🙏

Happy Birthday to the powerhouse, brilliant genius, and unshakable rock of Afrinoon Permaculture, and my beloved partner in every sense of the word. ❤️

Over the past few months, while my body has been fighting a bacteria and my energy has been limited, this man has quietly shouldered the weight of our entire farm. Not just the task, but the decisions, the emergencies, the early mornings, and the endless to-do lists that never seem to shrink. He’s been watering, feeding, fixing, building, and problem-solving through it all, often without a single complaint.

Despite the exhaustion and the grind, he still finds time to check on me, make me laugh, give me a cuddle and remind me that we’re a team, even when I’m the one who can’t pull my weight. Watching him move through this season with such grace, patience, and quiet determination leaves me in constant awe.

I often wonder how on earth I got so lucky to share this wild, messy, beautiful life journey with him. He is my grounding force, my favorite collaborator, and the person who makes every challenge feel surmountable. Here’s to you, my beloved man you deserve the world, and I hope today gives you a bit of the joy you give me every single day.

Sometimes the land doesn’t look the way you expect it to look when it’s healing.
It can look a bit messy. A bit broken. A bit like something has gone wrong.
But when you spend time with it, you start to see things differently.
A dead tree isn’t just a dead tree. It might be shelter for birds, insects, fungi, and all the small life that helps a woodland come back into balance.
Fallen branches aren’t just waste. They can become paths, mulch, habitat, and eventually soil.
That’s been one of the biggest lessons for us here: not rushing in too quickly. Not assuming that tidy means healthy. And not thinking we always know better than the land.
Regenerative land work is often about slowing down, observing properly, and making thoughtful choices rather than dramatic ones.

Not often I get to go to the big city (usually once a year) but Paris is beautiful and interesting no matter what month you go. Yesterday we had rain, wind, sun and grey clouds. I love finding little places that are doing fabulous environmental things, and I came across this beautiful field yesterday and it reminded me of what we’re doing back in Brittany with our Jacob sheep, practising eco grazing to manage land in a regenerative way.
