Does your horse sometimes feel as though stopping is optional?

I’m looking for a small group of riders to help me test a new training programme I’ve been developing around one very specific problem:

Getting a horse to stop reliably — without the rider having to rely on strong rein pressure.

I’m looking for around 5–10 testers with horses who may be keen, nervous, strong, distracted or simply rather unresponsive when asked to stop.

You’ll need to be able to spend around 30 minutes with your horse on most days over the next 10–14 days, and I’ll ask you to tell me what happens as you work through the exercises.

This is genuine testing, so I’m particularly interested in what works, what doesn’t, what is confusing and what changes you notice in your horse.

Changing ONE THING reduces STRESS!

When I'm training and managing my horses, I change one thing at a time to reduce the stress that one change causes.

So if I'm changing the field they're in, I keep the same horses together.

If I'm introducing the horse to new equipment like the saddle pad, I keep everything else the same. No other new things in that session. For me, this is the golden rule to reduce stress and keep your horse trusting you and wanting to learn more.

🐎 So, you fall off your horse, what does he do?

A) run a mile terrified
B) keep going a bit then stop to eat
C) stop immediately , go back and check you're ok

I make sure my horses are trained to stop and come back in case their rider comes off.

I also train them to move forward from behind so they're light in front and easy to ride Bitless
