Energy Garden

Energy Garden Energy Gardens are spaces for people to come together to grow food, enjoy improved local environments

Energy Garden supports communities to access, grow food and encourage biodiversity around transport infrastructure. Over the last seven years, Energy Garden has secured funding to negotiate the legal permissions of multiple transport partners, fund staff to oversee the development of gardens, run education programmes and buy the necessary materials and equipment for local people to build greener s

paces. Going forward, revenue from the sale of community-owned solar PV energy will support all our gardens and community projects.

What does a just, green future look like through the eyes of a young Londoner?

In our latest blog, Youth Training Programme graduate Sarah Cotte reflects on her time with Energy Garden, and how the recent heatwaves brought many of the programme’s conversations around climate justice, inequality and community resilience into sharp focus.

In her words, adapting to climate change and building a greener future is “not a future consideration, but something we need to take up now, urgently.”

A big thank you to Sarah for sharing such a thoughtful reflection on her experience 💚

Recently, Britain experienced its worst heatwave in years, with temperatures reaching beyond 36 degrees celsius, a direct consequence of climate change. Those who suffered the most were the most vulnerable among us: the elderly, the very young and the disabled. While some people went from air-condit

🎉 Congratulations to all 30 graduates from our latest Youth Training Programme and Get Ready for Careers in Sustainability cohort who graduated in May!

Over the past few months, we’ve watched the two cohorts build confidence, develop new skills, ask thoughtful questions, and challenge themselves in new ways. But more than anything, it’s been a joy to see the friendships formed along the way. Seeing so many young people who genuinely care about their communities, each other, and the future gives us real hope.

A huge thank you to everyone who helped make these programmes possible, including our partners, guest speakers, facilitators and supporters.

To everyone who graduated: thank you for your curiosity, kindness, enthusiasm and commitment. It’s been a privilege to learn alongside you, and we can’t wait to see where your journeys take you next.

💚 We hope this isn’t goodbye. We look forward to welcoming you back at future Energy Garden volunteering days, events and celebrations. Once you’re part of Energy Garden, you’re always part of the community.

Thinking about a career in sustainability? Our next Youth Training Programme starts this September, and we have a few places still available.

🌿 Established species already thriving, including elderberry, Virginia creeper and baby sage
♻️ Composting area and small-scale insect and hedgehog habitats introduced from the outset
👣 Reaching 1.42 million station users each year

🎉 2025 highlights
– Initial works began in September 2025
– Growing volunteer base, with visits from local MP and key stakeholders
– Garden structure underway, with areas cleared and planting beds designed

💭 Plans for 2026
Next Monday we will focus on completing the main bed using reclaimed bricks from Boston Manor Park to form a path, alongside a Mediterranean planting area and spring bulbs. Then, we will introduce raised planters at the centre of the garden for food growing and seasonal colour.

Climate action starts closer to home than you might think 🤝

To us, it starts with residents planting together, volunteer groups caring for local green spaces, young people learning new skills, and communities coming together to make their neighbourhoods greener, healthier and more resilient.

This London Climate Action Week, we’re celebrating everyone taking action in their own way.

🎥 Watch the film via link in our bio and celebrate the people making a difference every day.

🌱 What does climate action look like?

For us, it's people coming together to care for the places they live.

This London Climate Action Week, we're celebrating everyone taking action, big or small, to make a difference in their local community.

Every project starts with people, and every action, no matter how small, contributes to a more resilient future.

🎥 Watch the film and celebrate the people making change happen across the UK.

What does climate action look like in your community? We'd love to hear your stories in the comments :)
