Good morning!

Today we bring you the last plenary speaker of our 🥳: Prof. Carlos Lodeiro!!

Prof. Carlos Lodeiro combines his position as Assistant Professor in the Chemistry Department of the Faculty of Science and Technology at University NOVA of Lisbon (Portugal) with his role as co-head of the BIOSCOPE Group and the Nan@rts chemical enterprise. He is co-authored of more than 250 peer-reviewed scientific communications and a h index of 33. Among the wide range of research lines of his team, we can highlight the development of emissive smart materials, the study of the photophysics of supramolecular systems and the application of nanoparticles in biomedicine, MS spectrometry and proteomics. In particular, his group has expertise of the use of bio-analytical techniques for Protein Identification and Proteomics as well as in organic and inorganic synthesis of functionalized nanomaterials, dyes and metal composites.

Do you know who else is coming to speak in the plenary session? Dr. Marina Kuimova!

Dr. Marina Kuimova is Reader in the Department of Chemistry of Imperial College London (United Kingdom) Her team uses a variety of fluorescence imaging and time-resolved spectroscopic techniques to elucidate the nature of processes involved in cell function and death, including those during Photodynamic Therapy (PDT) treatment of cancer. In particular, she is interested in the use of molecular rotors to measure viscosity by changes in their fluorescence spectra or lifetimes in cells, to quantitatively and dynamically image the presence of non-canonical DNA structures named G4s inside live cells by fluorescence lifetime imaging microscopy and investigate mechanisms of cell death during PDT using fluorescence microscopy and imaging and perform spectroscopic measurements to help design better photosensitizers. She has published more than 70 scientific works and received numerous awards such as the Career Acceleration Fellowship from EPSRC, the Harrison-Meldola Prize from the Royal Society of Chemistry and the Young Investigator Award from the British Biophysical Society.

Here you can find the popular article and the video clip where she talks to the media (http://www.imperial.ac.uk/news/60934/sticky-business-cancer-cells-become-more/)
