🇬🇧 Yesterday, the British Museum opened its doors to display the Bayeux Tapestry, the 70-metre-long artwork commemorating the Battle of Hastings, back in the United Kingdom after nearly 1,000 years
The ceremony featured speeches by His Majesty King Charles III, President Emmanuel Macron, and Prime Minister Andy Burnham, marking a historic moment and an exceptional symbol of the deep, shared history between the UK and France, and of the Entente Cordiale between our two countries 🤝
Our France Country Director, Anne Duncan, joined David Thompson, our Director of UK and External Relations, and Ruth Mackenzie, former Director of Arts at the British Council and Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for the Arts (House of Lords), at the celebratory opening.
This marks the first event of MILLENIUM 2027, European Year of the Normans, a year-long celebration of Norman heritage that we are proud to support.
🇫🇷 Hier, le British Museum a ouvert ses portes pour exposer la Tapisserie de Bayeux, l’œuvre de 70 mètres commémorant la bataille d’Hastings, de retour au Royaume-Uni après près de 1 000 ans
La cérémonie a comporté des discours de Sa Majesté le Roi Charles III, du Président Emmanuel Macron et du Premier ministre Andy Burnham, marquant un moment historique et un symbole exceptionnel de l’histoire commune profonde entre le Royaume-Uni et la France, ainsi que de l’Entente cordiale entre nos deux pays 🤝
Notre directrice pour la France, Anne Duncan, a rejoint David Thompson, notre directeur du Royaume-Uni et des relations externes, ainsi que Ruth Mackenzie CBE, précédente directrice des arts au British Council et sous-secrétaire d’État parlementaire aux Arts (Chambre des lords), lors de l’ouverture célébratoire.
Ceci marque l’événement inaugural du MILLENIUM 2027, Année européenne des Normands, une célébration d’un an du patrimoine normand que nous avons l’honneur de soutenir.
