Update August 2023.
Busy with some important matters at the moment but will come back with more resources !

19/02/2023

💝 Valentine’s day was a few days ago. (1) Not a big deal to me.
We could (2) wonder if this love celebration (3) has seen increased interest with (4) the advent of social media.
Beside receiving care and love, it also serves people to stop and remember (5) to cherish one another. (6) Yet now that I think about it, I wonder if a « Human Day » wouldn’t (7) rather be more inclusive and generate more kindness towards each other. One shall complete the other.

[ACTIVITY] 1. Read the notes on the (8 ) board in the photo below.
Then separate the extra word from « -ENTINES DAY » to find the right word to match the definition it refers to.
Ex. *GAL-entines day : Spend time with the girls. *Gal is a colloquial way to mean girl
2. Following the (9) thought-provoking introduction, (10) make up a special day that’d be dedicated to something important that’d help make the world a better place. And explain its purpose, and how that is important.

"Really Love Yourself. Think of Yourself. Really Like and Feel Good About Yourself

The mind is very powerful, whatever thoughts you think, good or bad, are coming from your mind."

« You’re feeling good about yourself. And that’s the only way you can extend it. It has to come from you. »

✨This is a brief video of an elderly woman who’s been asked her secret for a long and healthy life. Find out by watching.

Today’s theme : SELF-AWARENESS

Life. What a (1) wide subject.
Have you ever paused and (2) wondered what is the meaning of all this ?
What if I actually lived (3) that long…

Living in a world that is interconnected globally means also receiving inspiration but also interferences in our (4) deep desires and needs. Our (5) beliefs become unclear and while (6) wandering this endless flow of informations, we don’t have (/ make) the time to think about our (7) ever-evolving truth as much as we should.

[ACTIVITY] So here’s what I propose.
First, (8 ) pinpoint the lady’s important points. Second, (9) think it through.
1. Answer the following questions by watching the video :
a/ what is the most important feeling evoked to live a healthy life ?
b/ what is according to her saying the problem of most "unsatisfied" people ?
c/ what is necessary to do if you wish to help others ?
d/ what’s her thoughts about the power of the mind ?

2. Time for your ideas to (10) come out. Write simple sentences. You can start with keywords, or in French then translate.
- What is a healthy mind ? Try to keep your ideas objective.
- How would you define your mindset (11) on a daily basis ?
- How do you treat yourself ? Do you often listen to your needs to rest, to say no, to take time off ?
- What keeps you from doing so ?

_____
✅Now on a pedagogical perspective, I would like (12) to stress the importance of selecting (or in the case of social media : following) topics that matter to you and touch you right into your heart so you are instinctively more engaged :
- you retain informations better
- your interest pushes you (13) to go the extra mile to research unknown words
- you may even do further searches on the topic
- the lexical field employed is likely to be of use since it deals with things about which you have conversation about
____

QIOZ | Apprenez les langues avec des extraits de films et des jeux 01/02/2023

Good afternoon !

I hope 2023 has started (1) wild for you, in a good way (2) obviously ☄️
That you’ve found deep inside of you the motivation (3) to get into gear throughout this month of January, meaning to dedicate some of your precious time to work on something that (4) matters to you.

(5) Whether it be starting a personal project, learning a new skill -or at least get yourself moving to its first steps- or simply realigning with your needs and slow down, every little step and (6) fail counts as much as big successes and (7) will lead you closer to that (8) enhanced version of yourself.
All this while (9) keeping in mind that the experience itself is to be considered of great value for many reasons : how it makes you feel, how it helps you grow, how it helps you reflect on your strengths and weaknesses, how it teaches you about diversity and possibilities, how it helps you see clearer what doesn’t suit your values.

Now, we’re shifting focus to that goal of yours to improve your English 😉
Let me share a free resource to practice your English with autonomy -supposedly accessible only to inhabitants of the Parisian region (aka : les franciliens).
Feel free to let the others know if that works for you if you live elsewhere.

♦️ I’ll tell you more about « QIOZ »

An online educative platform (10) lauched in 2019, developped by the Region Ile-de-France aiming to assist eager foreign language learners -English, Spanish, German, French Foreign Language, Portuguese, Chinese, French Sign Language- in improving their (11) skills in an interactive and entertaining way, in thematic modules or not. (12) Over the past couple of years, it has been added languages, contents and technical improvements.
Available in app as well.

💭 In my experience, I have occasionnaly accompanied my students using the website version which I find ludic and good in the variety of topics and simple activities offered, enabling the student to activate vocabulary multiple times and put it into a context.

7 Self-Reflection Questions to Create Your Own Happiness This Year - Tiny Buddha 08/01/2023

Hi you all. (1) First and foremost, let me wish you a HAPPY NEW YEAR ! 🎉

I (2) bet it has been a little labourious for you being aware of the ambient uncertainty that (3) has been hanging over us : geopolitical tensions leading to questioning the very sources of our society - (4) aka production of energy, shortfall of some (5) staples, drop of purchasing power, crisis in significant public structures, thousands of vacant working positions aka (6) the Big Quit, regression of fundamental women rights in developed countries, multiple abnormal climatic tendencies impacting directly the countries’ productivity, intensification of angry citizens against the political inertia…

But come on, we don’t want (7) to dwell on the tons of maddening news (8 ) thrown at our face by (9) the mainstream media. Despite the importance of informing oneself, let’s focus on the positive, on the things that are (10) within our reach almost immediately.

Whether it is a personal project, a new hobby, a new experience, some monthly challenges or just slowing down, they all (11) deserve your attention. Give yourself dedicated moments to reflect on your values, deep desires and the right steps to take you closer to your most authentic self. And to do so, I suggest you a read and two activities out of it.

Here we go ! 💥

Today’s theme : SELF-REFLECTION QUESTIONS

[ACTIVITY] First, go through the article linked to the post.
Then dive in with the following activities :
1. Translate the 7 questions raised from English into French :
a/ What is meaningful to you ?

f/ What are the three actions you’ll take to achieve each of these goals ?
g/ What are the twelves new things you want to try, learn, and explore ?

2. Now you better understand the questions, write down words that come to your mind. You can start in French then look up for the English words.

[ ⚜️ Note on "L'anglais dans la poche", 8th June 22]

(Eng) As I'm back on posting, I mean to remind that this learning page is not to add extra layers of bad news or condemn the outrageous and unfair (in such a place where the purpose remains assimilating a language) but simply to raise awareness on certain topics -close to my heart or interest, to plant a seed and it is up to you to feed it further or not. Beside, I put great importance on positive and thoughtful contents as well as substances for personal growth, inspiration and connection to our pairs.

Thank you to the new English and positivity enthusiasts ! Seeing this wave of new followers of my content left to die has motivated me to keep this page updated 🙏
My multiples activities beside keep me quite busy but if you keep on showing interest on the posts, I will do my best to pursue more regular posts.

———

The Why Factor - Resilience - BBC Sounds 11/11/2020

In times of uncertainty as we are all going through this year, may we be focused on the things that can help us (1) overcome new problems and (2) mental distress from such an (3) unusual situation.

Here's is a (4) 20 minutes-ish podcast that will reveal a characteristic of yours that you might have not thought of. Or if you have, well maybe this is a kind hint on where to work on.

Excerpt from the podcast :
[21:34] « Resilience isn't a simple characteristic. It's not solitary, it's one of those things which improves with the involvement of others. Which is why it's not silent or "suffering in silence" as the phrase goes.

Resilient people are mentally flexible and can accept a situation herein no matter how bad it is. Hence the Japanese proverb, the bamboo that bends is stronger than the oak that resists.

However, when we detect resilience in our friends, our families, our heroes, it's important to recognize that they will still suffer.

So it's not a free pass to ignore what they've been through especially in the case of children. »

[ACTIVITY] 1. Listen to the podcast (possible to download it for free).
Words are pronounced clearly. Make the most of it by enriching your vocabulary and get to practice your pronunciation while (5) scratching the surface of a much interesting topic.
2. Try your best to translate the except into French
