As the EU faces a choice between growth, economic security and sovereignty amid unprecedented geopolitical fragmentation, the Paris School of Economics is pleased to organize a debate bringing together Olivier Blanchard (PSE, i-MIP Institute for Macroeconomic and International Policies, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Peterson Institute for International Economics), Carlos Cuerpo Caballero (Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy, Trade and Business, Spain) and Claire Dissaux (Head of Macroeconomic Research, AXA).

The debate will be opened by Jean-Olivier Hairault, Director of the Paris School of Economics, and will close with a Q&A with the audience.

🤖 Could AI-generated summaries undermine the websites that rely on them?

Search engines now feature AI-generated summaries, allowing users to access an answer directly without visiting the source websites. But what consequences do these summaries have for websites and content providers?

📖 Inspired by the research of Nikhil Vellodi, Professor at PSE and at the CNRS , this new comic strip illustrates a paradox: even when a rule allows websites to opt out of having their content used by AI while retaining their ranking in search results, platforms can give greater prominence to AI-generated summaries, thereby maintaining the incentive for websites to contribute to them.

🚀 Artificial intelligence: a Schumpeterian revolution

AI is not just another technological disruption: it is a Schumpeterian revolution. It will boost growth, destroy certain jobs and create new ones.

In this editorial, Philippe Aghion (PSE, Collège de France) explores, with Peter Howitt, what "creative destruction" tells us about AI: its potential for growth, its still uncertain impact on employment, and the institutions Europe needs to make the most of it.
