****
I recently attended the "Sundays at the Zoo with Baby" workshop with my 17-month-old daughter, and we both had a wonderful experience. Designed for children aged 1 to 3 years, this interactive session combines storytelling, music and sensory play to introduce young children to the animal world.
The workshop is led by a storyteller and educator from the Musée de Poche, who does a fantastic job of engaging both toddlers and their parents. From the very beginning, we were encouraged to join in by singing, acting out the story with gestures and moving together. Rather than simply listening, we became part of the adventure.
The story takes families on a journey through the African savannah to discover one of its most iconic trees: the baobab and its delicious fruit. Afterwards, the children continue exploring the story through play. They can handle beautifully crafted wooden wild animals, dance, jump and discover real natural objects from the savannah, including baobab pods and seeds. I particularly enjoyed this sensory element, which extended the story in a meaningful and age-appropriate way.
Another aspect I really appreciated was the small group size—only eight children, each accompanied by one adult. This creates a calm atmosphere where every child can participate comfortably. The workshop lasts around 35 to 40 minutes, which feels just right for this age group.
One of the biggest highlights is that the workshop ticket also includes admission to the zoo afterwards. After hearing about the animals in the story, we loved walking around the zoo to see them in real life. It naturally extends the experience and makes for a lovely family outing.
What I loved
Activities perfectly tailored to children aged 1 to 3.
A warm, engaging storyteller who keeps everyone involved.
A great balance of storytelling, songs, movement and sensory exploration. Interactive, gentle and engaging from start to finish, it's an excellent way to introduce young children to wildlife while enjoying a memorable family day out.
