The true value of learning any language is the ability to speak it. All of the grammar rules in the french speaking world won't help you with a french local. You need confidence.

As far as speaking French is concerned, practice makes perfect. Overcoming the initial fear of speaking out loud (à voix haute 🇫🇷) is a pivotal moment.

When facing their first genuine interaction with a native speaker, many students will freeze (Geler 🇫🇷). 

Many may also concede they "do not speak french", "je ne parle pas français" they might say. A far easier solution to the barrier issue than facing the possibility of embarrassment (embarras 🇫🇷). Why struggle overcoming the language barrier when you can simply turn around and walk away?

Fear of anything can be paralysing, to truly progress, you must overcome it.

Libérez votre parole. 

The time has come to speak. The longer you delay, the less you'll be confident to say. The easiest route to freeing your is preparation, memorise a few key sentences to break the ice while informing people you speak a little bit of French but you are still learning.

This kind of approach (méthode 🇫🇷) moderates the expectation of the person with whom you are speaking, helping them adjust to your current capability. No doubt (doute 🇫🇷) they will appreciate the fact you are attempting to learn their beloved language and will be more open to assisting you.

Without establishing this boundary, a native might fire away with full French , resulting in those first interactions being one of frustration and confusion. 

It's your job (tâche 🇫🇷) to set the tone.

Productivity has a best friend and it's name is organisation. It's time to get your house in order! 😅

The more organised you are, the more effective your studying becomes. Organisation for language learning can be broken down into three key components; Resources, time & environment. It's the careful combination of these which will help you create a harmony of productivity. 🚀

📚Resources: Optimise your process for accessing key learning resources. Time spent looking for known resources is time wasted. Study notes should be filed correctly, websites bookmarked. Creating an adequate file structure for your learning materials, both physical & digital is a fast track to streamlining your study sessions. No time to waste.

⌛Time: Stick to schedule. Allocating specific times for learning and practice enables you to balance study time with working life. Busy lives are an enemy of productivity, you will always find an excuse not to study. Maintaining your schedule is paramount to success 

  ⌨️🖥️🖱️Work environment: A tidy desk is a tidy mind. It's difficult to concentrate if your immediate surroundings drive you to distraction, ensure everything of importance has it's place and is easily accessible. Clear the clutter.

Knowledge is power. As an expat potentially relocating to the far reaches of the planet, the world is your oyster. The key ingredient of any plan is preparation. Equipping yourself with as much knowledge before (avant 🇫🇷 ) implementing your plan is vital to it's success. 

The combination of preparation and foundational knowledge is your enabler, reducing risk of failure and empowering (habiliter 🇫🇷) you with the confidence to fulfill your ambition. No stone should be left unturned, particularly with regard to communication... 

.Underestimate (sous-estimer 🇫🇷) it's importance at your peril.

Language skills are fundamental. In the unknown environment you are likely to find yourself in as an expat, language is your lifeline. The ability to communicate will not only aid your integration in an otherwise (sinon 🇫🇷) alien environment, it will also help you find solutions to problems you will almost certainly (certainement 🇫🇷) encounter.

So for this special edition of lundi learning we thought we'd give you the world 🌎

The world is full of wonders, not least of which are the long list of languages humans have conjured up over the course of many millennia.

"My favourite language is French!"

Learning while you're working is a challenge, placing significant demands on your time. Organisation is vital. It's important to schedule specific times of your day for practicing your target language. 

To achieve this you will need to make sacrifices. Unless you already enjoy the luxury of free time, you will not be able to continue with your current lifestyle and also build a foundation in your language of choice. Something has to give.

This level of commitment need not last forever, but is vital in the short term. Your foundation must be built. 

The sacrifices you choose to make now will pay dividends in the future, consider it an investment of time. As a student your time is the only real currency, spend it wisely.

Whichever your chosen approach, you will find it a difficult balancing act. Learn to juggle.

I've done a number of courses over the years, side by side with a full time job. It's a difficult balance.

The battle is won or lost with the time you can create for yourself.

If you spend 20 minutes of your allocated lunch break walking to and from your local sandwich shop, commit to making your own sandwiches instead for two months. The idea being you continually strive to optimise your time. The additional minutes gained can then be spent learning.

It's one of many examples of how this can be achieved, but only you know the solution which works under your current circumstances.
