The program rounded out with our final visit, to Musée des arts et métiers. This museum was a perfect way to close the loop and connect a lot of what we discussed in relation to French communication, especially in regards to the digital world.
Our group of students, who were virtually (pun intended) strangers just weeks ago were walking and chatting like old friends, sharing photos, and making future plans.
This program is made possible by the partnership with Lamb School of Communication at Purdue University and American Graduate School in Paris along with our instructors. What an amazing opportunity!

And that’s a wrap my friends! The Purdue in Paris cohort for October 2019 had our farewell dinner at a most entertaining venue.
We all will head back to the USA over the next few days a bit richer in knowledge, but more importantly a newfound friendship. We now have this network of classmates and professors to lean on for guidance and mentoring in our professional careers.
The Lamb School of Communication at Purdue University Online Masters in Communication is the pioneer in the Study Abroad for an online program. Well done, well done!

When you bring a group of working professionals together from all over the USA who have in common they are also pursing a Master of Science in Communications degree from the Lamb School of Communication at Purdue University in Paris for a study abroad element wonderful things happen.
Today we had a guided tour of the Musée des arts et métiers from Sorin Adam Matei who shared so much knowledge on how the French were “first” in so many scientific inventions, but then they would pause and someone else would take the lead.
Study abroad in a graduate program is a way to have the experiential learning in such a rich way.

Another highlight of being able to study in Paris is the culture and art all around us. Experiencing the Atelier des Lumierès immersive art pieces on Van Gogh and Japanese Culture was breathtaking.
The pre-trip book we read was incredibly accurate; Paris is layered and gives the feeling of life and history coming right up from the ground to meet you.

welcomed special guest Julie Ghibellini, who serves on the National Assembly, to discuss privacy and control of content across Europe in comparison to the U.S.
Julie challenged us to think outside of the box and connect material that we spent all week learning.

France achieved a miracle in scientific advancement by creating one of the first calculators (thank you so much, Pascal!).

French invention: Cultural exception/ protection of cultural diversity.
The French TV and radio give quotas for how many French shows and French songs must play. You might have trouble finding a station you are looking for if it plays only a certain type of music.

Hearing from Yaël Hirsch about her magazine, which focuses on French culture, her journey and struggles was eye opening from both a communication perspective as well as that of an entrepreneur.

Elena Perotti, Executive Director for Media Policy and Public Affairs for the World Association of Newspapers and News Publishers (WAN-IFRA) delivered her expertise on online copyright infringement this afternoon.
Interesting how French and European law can work together in these kinds of cases. You first get a warning. But, next you could be faced with a fine and/or getting your internet cut off from 1 month up to 1 year! Bottom line, don’t steal content from the internet that is copyrighted!
