The Art of Delayed Gratification: How to Master the Skill and Achieve Long-Term Success

Nearly every culture around the world encourages sacrificing present pleasures for a better future. So, why is it so difficult to delay gratification?

All major religions, including Christianity, Islam, Judaism, Buddhism, Confucianism, and Hinduism, promote delayed gratification as a highly valued human virtue. Representatives of any culture at some point in history have understood that uncontrolled indulgence in gluttony, alcohol, or s*x can result in unpleasant consequences. They have also recognized that saving resources instead of dissipating them for momentary victories over the enemy, also known as “resistance to temptation,” can pay off in the long run.

Therefore, delayed gratification can be considered as the foundation of civilization. It is a call to sacrifice a little satisfaction today to greatly improve the quality of life tomorrow.

Investing in a Better Tomorrow
Delayed gratification works by accumulating benefits over time. When you are careful about what you eat, you not only ensure that you will have food in a few months, but you also free up time to do more useful things than constantly acquiring your daily bread. This leads to further innovation, which then makes life even better.

The same principle applies to other areas of life. We endure the difficulties of building roads or buildings, investing in businesses, knowing that in the long run they will bring much greater benefits than the current investment.

We spend years learning, realizing that gaining knowledge at a young age will pay dividends throughout our lives.

The entire system of commodity-money relations is based on the concept of deferred gratification because we assume that people will make wise investment decisions now that will yield profits in the future.

But if delayed gratification is so important, if it is the foundation of civilization and an integral part of success, why is it so difficult to practice?

Postponing pleasure today for a better tomorrow is so important to many of our cultural and religious institutions precisely because it is challenging to do so. We need frequent reminders – and sometimes a push – to overcome our instinctive laziness.

Delayed gratification is one of the most important traits for health and success in anyone’s life. Therefore, each of us should learn and practice this process as much as possible.

The Path to Personal Growth: Navigating the World of Self-Development

Many resources available online – from texts and audiobooks to videos – provide advice on self-development, revealing inner talents, and achieving success. While these resources offer a variety of tips and examples, this article focuses on self-development as a phenomenon in itself, rather than as a means to a specific end. Here, we explore the goals and objectives of self-knowledge in a more general, global sense.

Self-development refers to the process of developing personal qualities according to one’s own aspirations, and taking initiative to do so. It’s essential to note that this definition places emphasis on personal initiative, as working on oneself without a specific interest in the outcome can be a waste of time. Unfortunately, the modern education system cannot be synonymous with self-development, as students often do not appreciate skills that are forced upon them, or hackneyed rules, and therefore, do not try to preserve or increase them. However, there are certain subjects, hobbies, and groups that children and adults are passionate about and enjoy, and these can be different. Self-development should bring satisfaction and fuel the desire for further growth.

The beginning of self-improvement lies in the feeling of dissatisfaction with oneself. It’s impossible to be content with everything in life and not feel the desire to change something, try something new, and not just go with the flow, yielding to all difficulties. Even the most durable and reliable mechanism will fall apart over time if not repaired and modernized, not to mention a multidimensional and complex creature like a person. The entire cosmos is constantly evolving, and intelligent beings have the ability to consciously control the process of self-knowledge. The readiness for self-development, self-knowledge, self-improvement, and self-realization is inherent in us by nature.

Humans are social beings. Throughout our lives, we communicate and interact with one another, learn, teach, and change. This means that we do not remain the same as we were a year or six months ago. Nothing stays the same. The famous proverb says: if you do not develop, then you are degrading. Changes occur constantly, but self-development helps this natural process not only accelerate but also direct it in the right direction, depending on the aspirations of the person.

Another important aspect to consider is the principle of following the leader and the so-called “herd mentality”. If there are no individuals in society who demonstrate an example of active work on themselves, then society as a whole will face a sad fate. Thus, by improving oneself, each individual not only solves some personal problems but also inspires others. The number of sympathies for them and their authority grow, and they become more popular and valuable in the eyes of others. Isn’t that what most people want – to be appreciated by their loved ones and colleagues?

Esotericism and self-knowledge share many similarities, but esotericism is a set of specific methods that are not accessible to everyone, though esoteric knowledge is also a tool for human self-knowledge. The lessons of self-development are embedded in your life all the time, and your main task is to discern them and assimilate them with necessary efforts.

When a person embarks on a path of self-improvement, they gradually ask themselves questions about what improvements will do for them personally, their loved ones, the state or country where they live, humanity as a whole, all living beings, and the entire ecosystem of the planet. By searching for answers, they come to the conclusion that personal self-development is inseparable from the self-development of the ecosystem. The more far-reaching the goals and mission a person sets for themselves, the more exciting and vibrant their path becomes. The world of self-knowledge is truly boundless and encompasses both the outer Universe and the inner one, filling both of them with the joy of self-knowledge.

Mindful Eating: Achieving Optimal Health through Conscious Choices

Proper nutrition refers to the process of intake, digestion, absorption, and assimilation of substances necessary to fuel the body’s energy expenditure, build and renew tissues, and regulate functions. It is essentially the process of maintaining our physical body in a normal working condition. By satisfying all the needs of the body for the intake and regeneration of substances necessary for the effective existence of the human body, proper nutrition can help us achieve optimal health.

While science expands its knowledge about the human body, problems like life expectancy, excess weight, and diseases become increasingly prevalent every year. Many scientists agree that nutrition is one of the main causes of these problems.

Numerous books and studies have been written on proper nutrition, dietetics, and health improvement. However, it is important to note that such work and research is often sponsored by large food corporations, which can compromise the results. Ultimately, our understanding of the essence of the issue will play a significant role in the final result of our health.

Psychological Triggers: Understanding and Harnessing the Power of Emotions

Psychological triggers are situations that can evoke intense emotions in a person. These triggers can be sparked by seemingly insignificant events, such as a sound, smell, or taste, which can set off a chain of reactions.

Triggers are often viewed as negative, but there are certain situations where they can be beneficial. For instance, in marketing, triggers can influence consumer behavior, and positive triggers can be developed in personal relationships. However, effectively harnessing most triggers requires effort.

Understanding Psychological Triggers
Psychological triggers are stimuli that can elicit strong emotional responses from an individual. These can come in the form of sounds, smells, touches, visual and taste sensations, certain words, or events. When faced with such stimuli, the brain can be overwhelmed with emotions and lead a person to do things that they might not do otherwise.

Triggers can be part of a traumatic experience such as a crying baby, the sound of a siren, the squeal of tires when turning a car, or being in an enclosed space. For individuals who have experienced psychological or physical abuse, triggers can be any reminder of what happened to them, such as the color of a car, a touch, a song, or the appearance of another person.

In such cases, triggers can cause negative emotions such as anger, annoyance, sadness, apathy, or anxiety. They can also provoke impulsive acts.

Mastering the Sixth Chakra: Comprehensive Guide to Understanding and Balancing Ajna

The sixth chakra is located between the eyebrows and is responsible for cosmic perception of energy flows, intuition, and fulfilling desires. It acts as an intermediary between consciousness and a person’s inner world.

Throughout life, individuals seek answers to many questions, including rhetorical ones such as the meaning of life, truth and lies, desires, and reality. These are all associated with the sixth chakra.

When a person feels love for the Universe, themselves, and their surroundings, their ajna chakra opens up, allowing them to know and understand many things that were previously inaccessible.

Spiritual enlightenment can only be achieved after fulfilling the desires of all previous chakras. If a person is hungry, they will not think about spiritual matters. When the lower chakras are balanced, individuals can begin to ponder the meaning of life, the Universe, and the Divine.

Humility: The Virtue for Spiritual Growth
Humility is a quality that is essential for spiritual growth, and it begins with recognizing the opposite quality of pride. Pride, in its most ignorant form, is the perception of oneself as exceptional and more developed than others. This mindset blocks the path to humility, which is necessary for spiritual development.

Humility is the acceptance of oneself as an inseparable part of the common whole, connected to a divine Absolute, God, the Higher Mind, nirvana, the stream of mind, or the Universe. To reconcile with the world around us, we must strive for unification and acceptance of our inseparability from the world.

It is important to note that personality plays a significant role in the development of humility. Less developed personalities tend to fall into egocentrism, perceiving themselves as better than others and separate from the whole. This mindset can lead to the pursuit of selfish goals.

More developed personalities, on the other hand, are aware of their individuality and use it to benefit the common whole rather than their own desires. They also recognize the ego as a tool for interacting with the outside world and protecting themselves from manipulation.

In conclusion, humility is an essential quality for spiritual growth and can be achieved by recognizing oneself as part of a common whole and striving for unification with the world around us.

Unlocking the Mysteries of Prana: Exploring the Ancient Concept of Life Energy

Throughout human history, civilizations have recognized that the material world is not the only, and perhaps not the most significant, aspect of existence. There may be a more subtle plan of the universe that is primary and decisive. Since this is not an artificial principle, but a universal law, it is reflected in all cultures, although each nation has described it in its unique way.

In an ancient text called Satapatha Brahman, it is written: “Prana is the body of the Self (higher consciousness)“. In other words, consciousness cannot exist without energy, and prana serves as its conductor and mediator. We now know from modern science that matter is simply a form of expression of energy. Therefore, we can say that prana means energy. Without prana, consciousness would be entirely unable to express itself in the material world, and prana without consciousness would be uncontrollable. For life to exist, both principles must be present, and they are unified.

In Ta***ic texts, energy is represented by the powerful mother goddess Shakti, who embodies the feminine aspect of being and the fertile soil of the material world. God Shiva reflects the male aspect of consciousness. When the sprout of consciousness emerges on the fertile soil of the material world, it is a reflection of this duality.

In Christian culture, this duality is framed using symbols of holy communion: bread and wine. Bread represents daily sustenance, the bread of life that gives us strength and energy, or prana. Wine symbolizes spiritual enlightenment and the intoxicating bliss of knowing consciousness. These two components are consumed during the ceremony to embody the unity of the two aspects of being, namely, the unity of consciousness and energy.

Overcoming Envy: Understanding its Causes and Effects on the Mind, Body, and Soul

Different interpretations of envy
Bible: “Envy is the sadness of the soul, which comes from the well-being of one’s neighbor”.
Bhagavad Gita: “All living beings, when they are born, find themselves in the grip of an illusory duality arising from desire and hatred”.
Qur’an: “Try to overcome the feeling of envy, for envy devours good deeds as quickly as fire devours wood”.
According to the Shastra book, the living entity in this material reality is envious twenty-four hours a day. Dissatisfied with their position, they constantly strive to improve it, particularly in terms of their financial situation.

People often expend a significant amount of energy following imposed standards – improving their appearance and acquiring various items or accessories that are considered symbols of a successful life in society. In pursuit of illusory happiness, people can spend their lives on meaningless things, rather than focusing on finding answers to essential questions: who am I? where did I come from? where will I go? and so on.

Causes of Envy
Let us refer to the Bhagavad-Gita, where it is explained that envy arises from the individual soul’s separation from the One and the consequent entrapment in illusion. At this point, the soul desires (Ichha) to dominate material reality and feels envy (Dvesha) towards the Supreme God.

In an era of declining spiritual values and the predominance of materialism, many have forgotten about God, yet the feeling of envy persists. Now, people are jealous of anyone who is even one step ahead in something – richer, more beautiful, younger, and so on. The reasons for envy can be karmic and energetic.

Unlocking the Mystery of Koans: A Path to Enlightenment in Zen Buddhism

Koans are a tool used in Zen Buddhism to help practitioners achieve enlightenment. They are short stories or phrases that are meant to be meditated on and contemplated. By doing so, the student is able to gain insights into the nature of reality and themselves. Koans are considered to be a valuable aid in the practice of Zen, but they are not the only way to achieve enlightenment.

What is a koan?
A koan is a brief story, dialogue, or question that lacks logical reasoning and often contains paradoxes and alogisms. The term is borrowed from the Chinese language, where it was originally pronounced “gongan,” meaning “public business” or “public act.” However, unlike legal cases, koans were initially incomprehensible.

If you look for similar concepts in Western culture, you might find them in the “Dialogues” of Socrates and Plato. These dialogues feature questions, sometimes illogical or provocative, that are intuitively solved and can help you come closer to the truth and knowledge that exist both on their own and within the greater information system. However, while Western Dialogues aim to find answers, Zen koans help individuals accept that some questions may never be answered.

A Beginner’s Guide to Mindfulness Meditation: Cultivating Inner Awareness

By becoming more aware of both our internal and external stimuli, we can expand our ability to make wise decisions in any circumstance, regardless of what challenges we may face.

Wisdom comes from our ability to be mindful, which is distinct from thinking. With wisdom, we can understand the present moment and react accordingly, whether it be through our words, actions, or thoughts. Sometimes, a suitable response requires us to do nothing at all, but simply stay present in the moment. Wisdom is an awareness of both our inner and outer states, occurring moment-to-moment. It begins with cultivating concentration, which allows us to release our preoccupations and to be fully present in the present moment.

The practice starts with focusing and moves towards mindfulness meditation, where we observe what is arising without attachment or avoidance.

Unlocking the Power of Autosuggestion: A Guide to Rewiring Your Mind and Behavior for Positive Change

What is Autosuggestion?
Using repetitive spoken words can have a psychological impact on the subconscious mind, which is the primary driver of human behavior.

Autosuggestion encompasses all suggestions and self-administered stimuli that reach the mind through the five senses; in other words, it is self-suggestion. Autosuggestion serves as a communication channel between conscious thought and the subconscious mind, which is the source of action.

Why You should make autosuggestions an integral part of your life?
The influence of right thoughts and ideas cannot be measured or compared. Thoughts are the driving force behind the world’s progress.

Learning how to manage your thoughts is crucial. Your mind is a powerful tool, consisting of thoughts, memories, social conditioning, fears, habits, insecurities, and trauma. Additionally, your responses to the outside world are partly shaped by your genetics and years of influence from your parents, who taught you what to eat, wear, do, and how to react.

By mid-life, a significant part of who we are is composed of subconscious habits that have become automatic. These include driving, brushing our teeth, overeating when we’re stressed, worrying about our future, judging our friends, complaining about our lives, blaming our parents, not believing in ourselves, and insisting on being chronically unhappy, to name a few.
