2. Tương Ưng Duyên Khởi
Đức Phật dạy: Do vô minh có hành. Do hành có thức. Do thức có danh sắc.

📖 The Buddha Speaks on the False View of a "Permanent Self"
(According to the Majjhima Nikāya / Middle Length Discourses)
📜 ….(omitted teaching passage)
🚫 One applies inappropriate attention (meaning one reflects incorrectly) in the following manner: "Did I exist in the past, or did I not exist in the past? 🧐 (Everyone has this thought first, right? 'Did I exist in the past or not?' Yes or no? Everyone thinks yes, that they existed in the past, because due to a lack of learning, they fall into the view of eternalism. That is, considering oneself to have existed in the past, and this thought leads to eternalism 🛑. Or if one [thinks] that one did not exist in the previous life, it leads to the view of annihilationism ❌. Whereas if one thinks one existed in the past, it easily brings one back to eternalism. There are several kinds of views, not just eternalism and annihilationism).
❓ How did I exist in the past? In what physical form did I exist in the past? 🤔 (You see? It seems everyone has these thoughts). What was I before, and how did I exist in the past? ⏳ (Regarding the past, we reflect on these things, don't we? Almost everyone is curious, wanting to know if they existed or not? Then, knowing that one existed in the past, in what form, where, and how did one exist? You all ask these kinds of questions, don't you? Everyone wishes to have the recollection of past lives 🔮 to verify these things. But the Buddha says that such attention only increases afflictions 💢. Why this is so, we will find out. That concerns the past).
🔮 Will I exist in the future, or will I not exist in the future? How will I exist in the future? In what physical form will I exist in the future? What was I before, and how will I exist in the future?" 🪐 (This attaches you immediately—to what? You direct your attention and think that in the future you will be born in the human realm, the heavenly realm, etc., and how will you be? Thinking thus, the Buddha says it is not appropriate attention 🛑. Why is that so strange? That is where the problem lies, that is what is remarkable; this sutra points out the crucial juncture of afflictions. These things, almost everyone who does not study the Right Way falls into them).
🔄 If one does not think about the past, and does not think about the future, then one thinks about the present. The Buddha says one gets attached to that as well.
Or else, now, one has doubts about oneself in the present time: "Do I exist, or do I not exist? 👁️ How do I exist? In what form do I exist? Where did this living being come from? And where will it go?" 🚶‍♂️ (You see these things, we think about them all the time, normally we think about them, don't we? Thinking that one exists in this life, then in what form—here I am. Then where did this being come from (meaning where I came from), then where is it going, and it is the same for other beings. One thinks it is excellent, that one is thinking entirely about the True Dharma, right? ✨ But the Buddha says that is not appropriate attention. Why is that so, let us see the next part:
⚠️ For one who applies inappropriate attention in this way (meaning one who thinks in this manner), one of these six false views arises (The Buddha says one of the six false views arises. It is a false view and not a right view):
🔴 (1) "I have a self" (meaning asserting that one has a self. Why is that so strange? We will explain it shortly, let us read the whole text first), this false view arises in that person as true, as real; (Therefore, one first falls into the first false view: I have a self. If one does not have the first false view, one has the second).
🔴 (2) "I have no self" (this is falling into annihilationism), this false view arises in that person as true, as real; (That is, the person asserts that I did not exist in the past, I will not exist in the future, now I live and then I die, and now it is not me either, there is no self—this is also falling into a false view 🛑. Why is that so strange? We will come back to this shortly for those who have not yet understood);
🔴 (3) "By myself, I perceive that I have a self" (meaning that by oneself one perceives (one thinks), I think, I know that I have a self, then this is also a false view. In short, having a self is a false view, not having a self is also a false view), this false view arises in that person as true, as real (delete this sentence, just pay attention to the sentence in red);
🔴 (4) "By myself, I perceive that I have no self", this false view arises in that person as true, as real.
🔴 (5) "Not by myself, I perceive that I have a self", this false view arises in that person as true, as real (this fifth condition means it is not by oneself, but one still knows that one has a self. These false views (1), (2), (3), (4), (5) are quite simple; by studying the dharma a little, one can understand. But it is the sixth false view (6) that is difficult);
🔥 Or else this false view arises in that person (Into this false view, almost everyone who does not study clearly falls): 🍑🍑(6) "It is my own self that speaks, feels, experiences the retribution of good or evil deeds done here and there; this self of mine is permanent, immutable, eternal, changeless, and will exist forever." 🍑🍑 (This thing, everyone who has studied Buddhism for a while falls into it. 'It is my own self that speaks (meaning one's own self expresses itself), then one feels, then one experiences the retribution of good or evil deeds done here and there; this self of mine is permanent, immutable, eternal, changeless, and will exist forever').
💥 In summary, this section asserts that there is a permanent self. Do you see? Thus, this passage destroys so much knowledge where people think that it is themselves traversing through lifetimes. Reread the Great Discourse on the Destruction of Craving (Mahā-taṇhāsankhaya Sutta), or the sutras [on the self] that we [have] already taught so much. Whoever thinks they have a self, this sutra strikes them directly—it is a false view ❌. One always thinks that if one does such a thing, in the future one will suffer the retribution. Here, the Buddha says: ‘It is my own self that speaks, feels, experiences the retribution of good or evil deeds done here and there; this self of mine is permanent, immutable, eternal, changeless, and will exist forever’. That is why we talk about this a lot lately, why? Because it is the key point; if you understand this problem, you are a Sotāpanna (Stream-enterer) 🌟. Who says so? This sutra says so, the next section speaks of it, let us wait and see:
➡️ In truth, O monks, this is called a false view, a thicket of views, a wilderness of views, a puppet-show of views, a wrangling of views, a fetter of views. 🌲🏜️💬🤼‍♂️⛓️
(That is, there are up to six views: 1. False view; 2. Thicket of views (because they are as numerous as a forest 🌲); 3. Wilderness of views (meaning in a deserted, confused area where weeds grow abundantly 🏜️); 4. Puppet-show of views (meaning one goes towards vain speculation 💬); 5. Wrangling of views (meaning it is contradictory 🤼‍♂️); 6. Fetter of views (meaning it chains one down ⛓️). Thus, having these thoughts means falling into one of these views).
➡️ In truth, O monks, bound by the fetter of views, the uninstructed worldling who has heard little is not freed from birth, aging, death, sorrow, lamentation, pain, grief, and despair. I say he is not freed from suffering. 🛑
(This is important! It is enough to fall into that and it is over. One has fallen into the previous views, and one falls into the sixth view (6) as well).
📜 …. (omitted teaching passage)
❓ How does the Buddha say to apply attention?
✨ He applies appropriate attention: "This is suffering" 🛑, he applies appropriate attention: "This is the origin of suffering" 🔥, he applies appropriate attention: "This is the cessation of suffering" 🌊, he applies appropriate attention: "This is the way leading to the cessation of suffering" 🛣️. (You see, 'appropriate attention' comprises only four things; those are the Four Noble Truths: Suffering, Origin, Cessation, and the Way. If someone reflects on the Four Noble Truths, it means that everything they do is connected to the Four Noble Truths. Suffering includes eight sufferings (the eight sufferings); the cause of suffering; then when suffering is extinguished, how Nirvana is; finally, the path to Nirvana requires the practice of the Four Foundations of Mindfulness, the Noble Eightfold Path, or in other words, the 37 Factors of Enlightenment 🌟). Through this attention on his part, three fetters are destroyed: identity view, doubt, and attachment to rules and rituals 🛡️. (That is, he eliminates three fetters: identity view, attachment to rules and rituals, and doubt, then he is a Noble Sotāpanna). In truth, O monks, these states are called the taints (asavas) that must be abandoned by vision. (You understand, don't you? They must be abandoned by vision, meaning that one must understand, one applies attention a lot within the Four Noble Truths, then one understands and abandons the false views above).
📖 (Extrait from the Discourse on All the Taints – Sutra Number 2 in the Majjhima Nikāya).
💡 This is an excerpt from the Discourse on All the Taints. Remember to open Sutra [number 2, in the] Majjhima Nikāya. Instead of learning seven methods, please learn them one by one. Among the seven methods for eliminating taints, today you have learned one; understand it little by little then learn the next one. If you learn all seven at once, you will understand nothing at all.
Here, if you do not understand, we will summarize and re-explain this section. The previous section served to prove that we speak according to the sutra, and not of our own accord.
📌 Summary of the Above Sutra
1️⃣ THE BUDDHA DOES NOT ENCOURAGE SPECULATIONS ON "WHO AM I?" 🤔
*The worldling often has these thoughts:
➕ Did I exist in the past? ⏳
➕ What was I in the past? 🤔
➕ What will I be after death? ⚰️
➕ Will I always exist? ♾️
➕ Where did I come from? 🌏
➕ Where am I going? 🌌
This sounds like deep philosophical questions, but the Buddha calls it Inappropriate Attention (ayoniso manasikāra) 🛑.
One thinks that one is very clever, having this idea: I exist in the past, I exist in the past in such a way, in the future in such a way, and in the present in such a way. In short, one thinks about the "self". The Buddha says that is not appropriate attention. This is a summary; for the original text, please refer to the sutra above.
Why? Because the person asking these questions implicitly assumes that a "Self" truly exists to be sought 🧭. (We often assume that a self truly exists to be sought, but the Buddha says that is the problem).
*From there are born 6 types of false views:
❌ I have a self.
❌ I have no self.
❌ By the self, I know (perceive) the self (meaning that thanks to the self, I know I have a self).
❌ By the self, I know (perceive) the absence of self.
❌ Not by the self, I know (perceive) the self (sometimes it is not by [oneself], but one hears others say it, one learns it, etc., and one knows there is no self).
In short, everyone falls into these conditions. But the most important is this sixth condition (6), into which people often fall:
🍅 +There is a permanent self that transmigres in samsara and undergoes retribution 🍅. (This sentence is the summary of point (6) above).
That is why one often falls into it. And the Buddha says:
*The Buddha considers all these opinions as:
🌲 A thicket of views (the forest of attachments to views).
🏜️ A wilderness of views.
💬 A puppet-show of views.
🤼‍♂️ A wrangling of views.
⛓️ A fetter of views.
That is, the more one thinks about it, the more one is enchained 🕸️.
You remember it, don't you? That is why by learning this sutra, [let us see] if we follow the Right Way? Many people misunderstand, and therefore think there is a permanent self, and that is the end, that is going astray. Not only this sutra, we remind you of two sutras with which you are unfamiliar.
⚠️ Note:
➕ In the Great Discourse on the Destruction of Craving – sutra number 38 of the Majjhima Nikāya, it is established that "Thinking that this Consciousness runs, transmigrates but does not change" is a false view 🛑.
That, we already know; in that sutra, the Buddha criticizes the monk who asserts this, it is a false view. For no Consciousness remains. We have already cited it in many sutras, haven't we? For example, when a person dies and falls into the animal realm, the Buddha says that the consciousness of the human world is extinguished, and the consciousness of the animal world is born 🔄. It is not that there is a consciousness that flies to the other side; there is no soul that flies to the other side. It is like a lamp 🪔 that only transmits the fire, [while it] extinguishes afterwards—remember it! The fire is only the heir of karma. That is why in many other sutras, for example here we cite the sutra:
➕ In the Sutra (10.216) - The Parable of the Snake in the Anguttara Nikāya, it is said: "Này các Tỷ-kheo, các chúng sanh là chủ của nghiệp, là thừa tự của nghiệp, là sanh căn của nghiệp, là bà con của nghiệp, là chỗ nương tựa của nghiệp. Phàm họ làm nghiệp gì, thiện hay ác, họ là những kẻ thừa tự của nghiệp ấy" (In truth, O monks, living beings are the masters of their karma, the heirs of their karma, the matrix of their karma, the kin of their karma, the refuge of their karma. Whatever karma they perform, good or bad, they are its heirs) ⚖️.
This sutra, this kind of passage is not said only once, but several times. That is, ‘living beings are the masters of karma’, master means what? It means producing the karma. For example, now if someone does something, performs a bad deed, like Devadatta, he performs a bad deed by dividing the harmonious Sangha; he is the master of that karma. He creates the karma, he is called the master of the karma.
Next comes ‘the heir of karma’ 📜. What is the heir of karma? To say it in the most fundamental way, at death, it is not him, but another being that is born, and who inherits this karma, and not him. But this has a connection with him. That is why if we deny it completely by saying it is not him, it is not correct either. It is because of this that the Buddha spoke of the chain of the 12 Interdependent Links 🔗, which goes from Ignorance conditioning Formations, Formations conditioning Consciousness, etc., making a complete round.
And it is not that beings simply pass from one life to another like this; that is far too common. If you consider it so, understanding it a bit is already not bad. But if one understands deeply, like an Arhat 💎, then even in the present, we are continuously like this. In reality, the following inherits from the preceding, thus being born continuously; it only inherits the karma. Remember it! When one understands this, one can then escape samsara, what is called putting an end to the chain of the 12 Interdependent Links 🛑.
If one understands this, then it is said next:
2️⃣ When one understands this problem (seeing it as it truly is), and passes to attention on the Four Noble Truths, the three fetters are eliminated and one becomes a Noble Sotāpanna. 🌟
That is why it is enough to practice a single method; there are afflictions that must be abandoned by vision. There, your vision alone is enough to become a Sotāpanna ✨, without it being necessary to practice anything prodigious. Here, there are seven methods; we have presented only one, and it already allows one to become a Sotāpanna. That is why in the Theravada tradition, it is said that the Sotāpanna does not need tranquility meditation (Samatha). We see, in the sutras, the Buddha speaks of serenity meditation from the first jhana and beyond, when one directs the mind towards the truth of suffering, origin, path... to detach from it, then one realizes from the third fruit to the fourth fruit. As for the first fruit, like here, there is no need for it; the Buddha says nothing about it. The Buddha says it is enough for you to have such a vision, then the 3 fetters: identity view, doubt, and attachment to rules and rituals are eliminated, and this person becomes a Sotāpanna 🌈. So, is it easy to be a Sotāpanna? If one follows this, it is easy. But the misfortune is that one falls into the most difficult, that is, eternalism, thinking that there is a permanent self. As in this passage from the sutra, the Buddha considers this as a false view, doesn't he? And yet, through existences, almost everyone is like this.
It is written in the True Sutra, it is not me saying it: ‘It is my own self that speaks, feels, experiences the retribution of good or evil deeds done here and there’. Ordinarily, one says ‘it is me who does, it is me who assumes’, don't they? That is why there is a sutra that says that thinking ‘I do, I assume’ makes one fall into eternalism 🔴, and thinking ‘I do, another assumes’ makes one fall into annihilationism ❌. Here, we speak of eternalism: ‘This self of mine is permanent, immutable, eternal, changeless, and will exist forever’. That is, according to worldly language, there is a soul that exists indefinitely from one life to another, from infinite kalpas until today. Whoever thinks thus falls into this sixth condition (6), which is eternalism. It is precisely for this reason that it is difficult to free oneself from the cycle of births and deaths, simply because one is attached to that. And one has been attached to it for so long that one naturally considers it as such; then it is over, if one falls into that, how could the afflictions be eliminated?
You see that the crucial point lies solely there. And when one has understood that, one applies attention according to the Four Noble Truths and becomes a Sotāpanna ✨. This is not a prodigious practice.
*The sutra says: Three fetters are eliminated: identity view, doubt, attachment to rules and rituals 🛡️. This is the first fruit of the Noble Path: Sotāpanna (The one who has entered the stream).
The abandonment of:
➕ Identity view (sakkāya-diṭṭhi): No longer grasping the five aggregates as: Me, Mine, My self 🙅‍♂️. (The five aggregates are Form, Feeling, Perception, Volitional formations, Consciousness; one no longer grasps them).
➕ Doubt (vicikicchā): No longer doubting the Buddha, the Dharma, the Sangha, the path of liberation 🧭. (Whereas now, if one is still vague about the path of liberation, it means one has not yet eliminated doubt).
➕ Attachment to rules and rituals (sīlabbata-parāmāsa): Such as no longer believing that: rituals, offerings, extreme asceticism… can lead to liberation 🚫. (Attachment to rules and rituals is immense. For example, if one keeps precepts that do not conform to those of the Buddha, then performs this or that ritual, saying ‘I must don the monastic robe to realize the fruit of Sotāpanna’, this is also an attachment to rules and rituals. Why? It is not necessary, it is not that important. Saying ‘I must become a monk to realize the state of Arhat’—it is not true! This is only a ritual. Offerings, prayers, extreme asceticism, etc., in short, attachment to rules and rituals comprises a multitude of things. These things, once understood, one frees oneself from them).
You understand, don't you? This passage is repeated many times, mainly to urge you not to fall into the most difficult of the 6 false views, which the Buddha indicates in this sutra: (1) I have a self; (2) I have no self; (3) By myself, I perceive (know) that I have a self; (4) By myself, I perceive that I have no self; (5) Not by myself, I perceive that I have a self; these false views are easy, but the sixth false view (6) is the most difficult 🔴, it is to think ‘It is my own self that speaks, feels, experiences the retribution of good or evil deeds done here and there, this self of mine is permanent, immutable, eternal, changeless, and will exist forever’. The majority of practitioners fall into this; it is what is called eternalism, it is the most difficult.
Whoever can abandon eternalism finds it very difficult, but according to the language of the sutra, he who understands this as it really is, is a Sotāpanna 🌟; it is not ordinary. That is why it is normal that an infinity of people do not hear or do not understand this. You understand, don't you? Why does one say ‘now I speak’, the Sotāpanna does not say ‘I speak’. Saying ‘I speak’ belongs to Conventional Truth, beings attach to it so we conform to it by saying ‘I’, because if one does not say ‘I’, who are we talking about. That is why the Buddha also says ‘I’. But in reality, there is no "I" that speaks, no "I" that feels, no "I" that undergoes the retribution of karma. If one has superficial knowledge, one will say ‘I suffer the retribution of what I did in my previous life’. But in reality, that previous life was not me; that previous life was a living being.
That is why the Buddha does not define the "I", but the Buddha defines "living beings". ‘Living beings are the masters of their karma, the heirs of their karma. Karma is their matrix, karma is their point d'appui, karma is their kinship; whatever karma is performed, it accompanies living beings’ ⚖️. That is, the Buddha does not define the "I", but changes the word to "living beings", and sometimes the Buddha changes it to "Sentient Beings".
What is the clearest example we have ever seen? It is like a lamp 🪔; the lamp only transmits this flame to another flame. The Buddha takes the example in the Great Discourse on the Destruction of Craving: where the fire is born, it becomes that fire 🔥. For example, if the fire burns wood, it is called a wood fire; if the fire burns straw, it is called a straw fire... it burns thus and spreads according to this fire. This fire is karma. Living beings, each part residing in the blade of straw that burns, are called straw-beings. When this fire burns thanks to wood, it is called wood-beings. You understand, don't you? When the fire burns a house, it is called house-beings 🏠. This is said so that you understand.
Consequently, when the house burns, what about it? Is there a link with the old fire? Yes! 🔥 It inherits from the old fire, meaning that it inherits from the karma. It is because of the karma, which is the heat of the old fire, the capacity to burn of the old fire, etc., that it ignites in the house. That is why saying ‘I receive the retribution’ belongs to conventional truth; the house burns because that man burned the pile of straw. But in reality it is not 100%; it is only an inheritance and not that same straw flame. For it is another fire. It is because the house is dry, because the house can catch fire, that it takes the fire from the pile of straw that that man burned (in the field) [and which spread until] burning the house, and not the straw fire that burned the house. Beings in the illusion say that it is the straw fire that burned the house; it is only half true. It is true that it comes from that fire. That is why it is said that living beings are the heirs of their karma 📜. You understand, don't you? We repeat continuously; there is only that.
Therefore, if one does not understand, one continues to listen to plant virtuous roots 🌱; in the next life one will listen again, and if someone brings us awakening, one will realize the state of Arhat, otherwise realizing the state of Sotāpanna is already very good ✨; it is what is called ‘Clarifying the mind, Seeing one's nature’, [then] one understands what our mind is, that is why it is called the original mind. You know, in the sutras, there are about more than a hundred sutras that speak of this non-self, so look for them, take the trouble to listen to the sutras, then open the sutras to read them, then meditate on them, note down yourself the places that speak of these points. Do not come now to ask Thien Trang from where this is extracted. There are so many of them; you see well that we have taught for so many sessions and we have not exhausted everything, there are still an enormous number left.
Because people listen [but] do not use their minds to reflect; they only skim. It is like this sutra, which [is] the second sutra of the Majjhima Nikāya; you see that there are seven methods for eliminating taints, everyone cites the seven methods. But among these seven methods, [the] very first method already shows us how to enter the state of Sotāpanna ✨. A single question is enough to become a Sotāpanna. As for the following questions, one does not yet need to learn much about them; this single question [yet] is extremely important. But how many speak of it, because one learns a lot without paying attention. That is, we have the habit of reading, what is called ‘swallowing the apple whole’, rather than reading with attention. The same goes for listening; one must listen regularly to the True Sutra to pay attention to it little by little, then progressively one understands, one meditates little by little, then one applies appropriate attention. Until appropriate attention is sufficient to destroy a quantity of false views. Here, it is called false view, thicket of views, wilderness of views, puppet-show of views, wrangling of views, fetter of views; these views of affliction will make us wander in samsara 🔄. So, whoever understands this today understands it more clearly, don't they?
In the Questions of King Milinda 💬, the venerable Nāgasena gives an example: there is a man who lights a fire, and because he lit this fire in the field, it spreads and burns a house 🏠. So, will Your Majesty (meaning the king) punish this man? The king answers: ‘Of course! It is because of this fire that now the house burns, he must be punished’. So, what do you think, the future being and the preceding being have a link? Why do they undergo the karma—it is too unfair, isn't it? It is like in this life, if you are very ugly, it is because in your previous life you performed a certain karma. But the previous life, it was not you; it was another being that did it, but why is it you who undergoes it now? That is why King Milinda asked this question 🤔. The venerable Nāgasena asked if he was arrested or not. The king said he was indeed arrested; if one burns this pile of straw and it spreads to others, one must also demand reparation.
Every living being is also like this. That is why the Buddha defines living beings—there is no permanent self—but the Buddha defines living beings according to the present definition: ‘Living beings are the heirs of their karma’ 📜. Being the heir of karma means that I inherit the karma of the previous life, doesn't it? It is not the karma of the previous life, but the karma of this life itself. For example, it is thanks to the fact that you went to school 📚, then you made efforts for so many years, that now you have this position, that you do this work. If, being young, you had been lazy, had dropped out of school, you would not have what you have now. That is why one is the heir of karma.
And what is meant by ‘master of karma’? It is precisely what one is doing; now there is a self of the present that acts, creating karma to enjoy it in the future. That is why it is called the master of karma ⚖️. You cut from this text these few sentences: ‘Living beings are the masters of their karma, the heirs of their karma’; then behind ‘karma is their matrix’, meaning that karma is the cause for the being to arise; ‘karma is their point d'appui’, meaning that beings live in reality based mainly on karma. Although there are eight factors that influence feelings (meaning the reception of retribution), karma remains the principal; and finally ‘karma is their matrix, karma is their point d'appui; whatever karma is performed, beings follow this karma’.
If you understand thus, there is no longer any self 🙅‍♂️. Understanding thus, if you understand absolutely, then you destroy the self and realize Non-self ✨. Non-self means that I will not exist in the future life, but that beings exist and remain. Similarly, I do not exist in the present either, because I exist temporarily, living in the present and suffering a lot 🛑. If one says this and does not make efforts, then [later] one suffers. And when one suffers, one accepts the suffering by taking it for oneself, without saying that it is not me, because [beings] are in the illusion.
That is why in the cycle of births and deaths, one makes a lot of efforts, one must progress, progress, continuously perform good 🌱; if one does not perform good, one suffers. And when one understands this absolutely, does one have the desire to exist in the cycle of samsara? Certainly not! 🛑 One does not want it anymore, because one cannot live forever; there is no self that is permanent, immutable, eternal, changeless, existing eternally forever. It does not exist! That is why this person has realized holiness ✨, they transmigrate no more.
The Sotāpanna sees things thus, like a car 🚗 traveling at high speed; as soon as they see it, they step on the brake 🛑. They brake but cannot stop immediately; they still have to roll for a maximum of seven rounds, meaning at most seven transmigrations before stopping—this is what is called the category of the one who returns seven times at most (Thất lai). If they only have two or three lives left, it is called the category of one who goes from family to family (Gia gia), and if only one life remains, it is called the category of one who has only one seed (Nhất chủng). These categories of Sotāpanna, we have all already studied them. And if, at this very instant, the vehicle stops short in this life, it is called an Arhat 💎. According to your level of understanding, your ability to brake the vehicle of samsara to stop it quickly defines your level of realization. Today, we have repeated it thus, hoping that you understand; whoever understands and lives thus is a Sotāpanna ✨. If you do not understand, it is not a big deal; practice quietly, be neither impatient nor hurried.
Thus, we have finished the explanation and sharing of this sutra. Please remember this phrase in red: ‘It is my own self that speaks, feels, experiences the retribution of good or evil deeds done here and there; this self of mine is permanent, immutable, eternal, changeless, and will exist forever. In truth, O monks, this is called a false view, a thicket of views, a wilderness of views, a puppet-show of views, a wrangling of views, a fetter of views’. 🛑
