Not sure what to reply to ‘Avec ceci ?’ in a shop?
Bonjour à tous 🙂
In shops in Switzerland, you’ll often hear:
👉 “Avec ceci ?”
👉 Important point:
You don’t answer “oui”.
✔️ If you want something else:
👉 just continue your order
“Je voudrais aussi…”
✔️ If you don’t want anything more:
👉 “Ça sera tout, merci”
👉 “C’est tout, merci”
👉 In real life, people usually continue their sentence rather than answering yes or no.
These small details make everyday interactions much smoother 🙂

New: help with French administrative documents (for expats)

Alongside my French lessons, I also help expats understand and handle everyday administrative documents (letters, insurance, forms, online procedures).

Everything is explained clearly in English, step by step. I can also help you understand how to respond to official letters and draft appropriate replies in French.

✔ Online support
✔ Practical, real-life situations
✔ Clear explanations

(For tax or legal matters, I recommend a fiduciary.)

If you’d like, we can start with a short video call to go through your situation and see how I can help.

Bonjour à tous ! In French, when someone asks"comment ça va?" or “Ça va ?”, there's a slight difference between the two questions. Do you undestand this difference and what do you usually answer?
– Ça va
– Ça va bien
– Bien, et toi ?
– Comme ci, comme ça
– Pas trop mal (not too bad)
Many learners think “comme ci, comme ça” is very French — and it is…but it’s actually less common in real conversations than people expect.
What do you hear or use most often?

🇫🇷 BONJOUR vs BONNE JOURNÉE - What's the difference?
Many people get confused! Here's when to use each:
**BONJOUR** = Hello (when ARRIVING or GREETING)
👉 When entering a shop, meeting someone
**BONNE JOURNÉE** = Have a nice day (when LEAVING)
👉 When leaving a shop, ending a conversation
**Same pattern for evening:**
🌆 **BONSOIR** = Good evening (arriving/greeting)
🌙 **BONNE SOIRÉE** = Have a nice evening (leaving)
💡 **Pro tip:** Think of it like "Hello" vs "Goodbye" in English!
**Bonus:** You'll rarely hear "Bonne matinée" - just use "Bonne journée" all day! ☀️

To tip or not to tip in Switzerland or France?– that is the question!
You’re at a café and wonder if you should leave something.
You’re at a restaurant and see “service compris” on the bill.
What do we French people do?
Café: 4,50 CHF→ we round up to 5 CHF (20–30 cents is perfect)
Restaurant: we leave 5–10 %, even with service compris
- It’s a tradition, an unspoken rule
-Tipping isn’t required, but it’s very appreciated
- You’ll feel the difference when you come back!
If not satisfied at all, leave nothing (P.S. The waiter isn’t responsible for the food!)
