In our summer newsletter, Julie Tollen, one of the instructors at Tampa Aikido, wrote about what an Aikido promotion actually means. Not the technical checklist, but the inner work that leads up to a test, what the kanji on your certificate really say, and the traditional etiquette of receiving one.

Julie has penned thousands of names on ASU kyu certificates since 2015, and the essay includes a full translation and transliteration of a sandan certificate, something most of us have never seen written down.

At the ASU Summer Camp, Saotome Sensei presented the Shihan certificates awarded by the Doshu and the Aikikai.
Once again, congratulations to Lee Crawford, Marsha Turner, Robert Deppe, Gary Small, and Eugene Lee—not to mention Jim Alvarez and Chetan Prakash (not pictured here)—on this wonderful honor.

Remise des diplômes de passage de kyu, félicitations à Dora, Mélanie, Hélène et Bernard pour votre travail cette année, ça promet pour votre futur aikido !
Ce fut une belle année de transition pour nous, parfois compliquée mais c'est sûr, on ne reste pas dans notre zone de confort et on avance.
La suite, la saison prochaine !

Il fût un temps où l'aïkido ressemblait à ça...
On a de la chance d'avoir pu approcher Saotome Sensei de très près et de bénéficier de son enseignement directe.
Maintenant, à nous de poursuivre son travail.

Un après midi riche avec un travail sur le tanto. Stéphane Carépa et le Nihon Taï Jitsu nous ont ramené à la réalité du travail avec cette arme. Quoi que l’aïkido a aussi beaucoup d’arguments…

Matinée riche en découverte et retrouvailles à Villeneuve Loubet avec Pierre Lazard.
Pierre a été un de mes premiers profs quand j’ai commencé l’aïkido.
On lui doit énormément à l’Aikido Club du Baou.
