📚 Word of the Week: Flâner

One of those wonderful French words that doesn’t translate perfectly into English.

To stroll. To wander. To amble.

But flâner is more than simply walking. It’s taking your time, noticing what’s around you, enjoying conversations and small discoveries along the way.

C’est aussi un peu l’esprit de nos Walk & Talk : pratiquer les langues tout en profitant de Nice, sans se presser.

🌳 Why not join us?
Our next FREE Walk & Talk takes place on 20 June.

French, Italian… or simply Niçois?

Cette semaine, notre Meet the Street nous a emmenés rue Bonaparte, entre influences françaises, italiennes et identité niçoise.

We met Domenico at , discovered regional cheeses with Ludovic , enjoyed the early evening atmosphere and, as tradition demands, finished with a drink at .paulette

Rue Bonaparte may carry a French name and an Italian flavour, but perhaps its vibrant energy is something uniquely Niçois.

Et vous, qu’en pensez-vous ?
🇫🇷 Française ?
🇮🇹 Italienne ?
💙 Niçoise ?

A special July offer is coming very soon...

🇫🇷🇮🇹🇬🇧 Between France & Italy / Entre France et Italie

Our first meet-up of June and the perfect way to begin this month’s theme!

After our Promenade des Franglais, we enjoyed a drink together on Place Masséna - a place that tells its own story about Nice. With its elegant arcades and architecture inspired by Turin, it’s a reminder that Nice has been shaped by many influences over the centuries: Niçois, Italian, Savoyard and French.

Tout au long du mois, nous allons explorer ces différentes facettes de l’identité niçoise à travers des balades, des conversations, des découvertes et des rencontres.

Au programme :
🔸Meet the Street dans le quartier Bonaparte
🔸Notre première escapade en Italie de l’été
🔸Et bien sûr, beaucoup de conversations en anglais et en français

One of the things I love most about this group is that language becomes a way of discovering the city - and the city becomes a way of discovering language.

📣 In July, we’ll be opening the group to new members with a flexible summer programme.

🎥 Clare’s Rambling Videos No.3 🤗

One of the biggest challenges for intermediate learners isn’t grammar or memorising vocabulary, it’s actually using it in conversation.

Without regular opportunities to practice what we’ve learnt in real-life situations, it often isn’t there when we need it most.

🇫🇷 C’est souvent à ce moment-là que la confiance disparaît. On a l’impression d’être moins avancé qu’on ne l’est réellement.

The good news? Confidence can be rebuilt through regular practice, supportive conversations and shared experiences.

That’s one of the ideas behind English in Nice / Nice en Français: helping intermediate learners use the language they already have, rather than focusing on everything they don’t know.

📣 The membership will soon be opening to new members, so if you’re an intermediate English or French learner in Nice, keep following for more details very soon.

À bientôt 🌿

🇬🇧 Word of the Week: ENOUGH (ASSEZ)

One tiny word. One very common mistake.

For French speakers, enough can feel like it has a mind of its own because it doesn’t always go where you’d expect!

✅ big enough
✅ fast enough

But:
✅ enough time
✅ enough space

A small difference that can make a big difference to how natural your English sounds.

🇫🇷 Mot de la semaine : ENOUGH

Un tout petit mot… mais une erreur très fréquente.

Pour les francophones, enough semble parfois avoir sa propre logique !

✅ big enough → assez grand
✅ fast enough → assez rapide

Mais :
✅ enough time → assez de temps
✅ enough space → assez de place

Une petite règle qui peut faire une grande différence à l’oral comme à l’écrit.

Can you make a sentence using enough? 👇

A little glimpse into this month’s Writers & Wanderers theme ✍️🌿

Over the past few weeks we’ve been exploring Nice through the words, impressions and experiences of writers and artists connected to the city.

This weekend’s “Our Tour” took us wandering through different corners of Nice, sharing both stories and our own reflections on writers and artists who lived/spent time and wrote about Nice. Observing and conversing in both English and French along the way.
Then, after refuelling with some delicious socca & drinks, we went to Theâtre de l’Eau Vive to watch “Almost, Maine” - one of our member’s English-language theatre performances.

C’est ça que j’aime dans ce groupe : la langue devient une façon de découvrir la ville, les autres et parfois même soi-même un peu différemment.

We are practising language together through shared experiences discovering Nice in different ways.

The 2nd in my “Clare’s Rambling Videos” series 😅

Language exchanges can be a lovely way to meet people… but for learners, they don’t always provide the support needed to really build confidence and fluency over time.

That’s one of the reasons I created the English in Nice / Nice en Français membership, something just as friendly and social, but with a bit more structure and direction.

We explore monthly themes, discover different places in Nice, and practise language through real-life conversations and shared experiences.

Parce qu’apprendre une langue, ce n’est pas seulement parler, c’est aussi vivre des moments, créer du lien et gagner peu à peu en confiance.

If you’re curious to find out more, you’ll find the link in my bio 👆

À bientôt 🌿

✨ PARCOURS ✨
One of those lovely French words that doesn’t translate neatly into English…
Depending on the context, un parcours can mean:→ a route→ a journey→ a pathway→ a personal or professional trajectory / career path
This week for “Our Tour: Writing Nice”, we’ll be creating our own literary “parcours” through the city, exploring Nice through the words, impressions and experiences of writers and artists who passed through here -
Parce qu’une façon d’apprendre une langue, c’est aussi de découvrir de nouvelles façons de voir un lieu ✨
