A summer of cooking, challenges and some very inspiring young people…
This summer I've had the absolute pleasure of working with Season it Cookery
I have been the lead tutor for the wonderful courses for Season It's Duke of Edinburgh Gold Residentials held right in the French Alps. Season It are a DofE approved activity provider for the RESIDENTIAL section for anyone taking part in their Gold Award. Find out more - https://www.seasonitcookery.co.uk
They also run online SKILLS courses for Bronze, silver and gold. https://blueskyskills.thinkific.com
Working with Season It has been an incredible experience and I've genuinely loved every minute of it.
There's something incredibly rewarding about watching a young person start with an idea, perhaps not knowing quite where to begin, and then seeing them learn, experiment, make mistakes, try again and eventually produce something they're really proud of.
For me, cooking has always been about much more than food.
It's about creativity.
It's about confidence.
It's about learning to try something you're not sure you can do.
And sometimes, it's about discovering that you're actually rather good at something you never thought you'd enjoy!
I've been so impressed by the young people I've worked with this summer. Seeing them take on the challenge, develop their skills and become more confident has been incredibly inspiring.
It's also made me think about how important it is that we give young people opportunities to try new things and challenge themselves.
That's something I see every year at Ice & Fire too.
As the owner of Ice & Fire Ski & Snowboarding Holidays in La Plagne, I love seeing our younger guests take on the challenge of skiing or snowboarding, perhaps tackling something that scared them on day one and then looking back at how far they've come by the end of the week.
Whether it's learning to cook or learning to ski, there's something very special about watching someone discover what they're capable of. ❤️
I'm incredibly grateful to Season It for giving me the opportunity to be involved this summer, and I'm very proud to have played a small part in helping these young people work towards their DofE Skills section.
And who knows… perhaps one day I'll see some of these budding young chefs cooking up a storm in one of our chalets in La Plagne! 🏔️👩🍳😉
For any parents following along, if your child is looking for opportunities to develop skills, confidence and independence as part of their Duke of Edinburgh's Award, I'd definitely recommend taking a look at what Season It has to offer.
Keep learning. Keep challenging yourself. And most importantly, keep having a go.
