🌱 Healthy landscapes are the foundation of food security, climate resilience, and sustainable livelihoods. Yet at least 100 million hectares of productive land are degraded every year.

🌍 At , the Alliance of Bioversity International and CIAT will bring science, evidence, and practical solutions to help turn land restoration commitments into action.

From restoring rangelands and improving soil health to advancing agroecological approaches and resilient food systems, we work with partners to address the interconnected challenges of land degradation, biodiversity loss, climate change, and food insecurity.

📍From 17-28 August in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, we will engage with governments, partners, and investors to share the innovations and partnerships needed to scale restoration and build resilient landscapes.

🌍✨ Discovering the Living Labs Cross Visits!

How can territorial innovation and rural well-being shape the future of Europe's rural areas?

The latest GRANULAR Cross Visit dossier takes us to Ourense ( , Spain), where researchers, local authorities, businesses, community organisations and Living Lab facilitators came together to exchange knowledge and explore innovative approaches to rural development.

Over two days, participants visited San Xoán de Río, Allariz and Ribadavia, showcasing the diversity of rural Galicia, from depopulating areas to successful examples of territorial revitalisation and vibrant local economies.

Organised by the Universidade de Vigo within the framework of the GRANULAR project, the cross-visit combined field visits, expert discussions and stakeholder exchanges focused on:

🔹 Territorial innovation and rural well-being

🔹 Social innovation and community empowerment

🔹 Digital governance and AI for local decision-making

🔹 Sustainable territorial planning and rural resilience

🔹 Knowledge exchange between researchers, policymakers and local communities

Once again, the GRANULAR Living Labs demonstrate how connecting research, policy and local action can help build more resilient, inclusive and evidence-based rural futures.

From climate change to digital transformation and generational renewal, today's challenges call for new ways of generating knowledge — researchers, farmers, advisors, businesses and policymakers co-creating solutions together.

This is the spirit behind the Multi-Actor Approach (MAA), an increasingly central feature of Horizon Europe R&I projects. And it's about far more than "consulting" stakeholders at some point along the way — it requires genuine engagement across the entire project lifecycle.
In our latest article, Irene Gavieiro, project manager at CIHEAM Zaragoza, explains how this approach is transforming agricultural research and turning scientific knowledge into practical, lasting impact. 👇
