Today, around the world, we celebrate International Nurses Day to mark the outstanding work our nurses, midwives and healthcare assistants do. This event takes place every year on the 12 May, the anniversary of Florence Nightingale’s birth. Florence Nightingale (the ‘lady of the lamp’) was the founder of modern nursing in the 1800’s. This year’s celebration is that much more special, not only because it is the 200th anniversary of Florence Nightingale’s birth but, in these strange and difficult times, presents us with a further opportunity to thank our nurses, midwives and healthcare workers for all that they do. Thank you!
PS. There are many free online resources (e.g. factsheets, reading comprehensions and activity sheets) available for young children. It’s a great current topic for discussion. It can also be very reassuring for young children to know that there are people in their wider circle there to help them generally, should the need arise.
Merci !
