🧬 The hidden factors behind a successful 3D-printed part

Two parts can have the exact same geometry… yet deliver completely different performances.

In additive manufacturing, the final result depends on much more than the digital model itself:
➡️ Printing orientation
➡️ Process parameters
➡️ Material selection
➡️ Internal lattice design & porosity

That’s what makes 3D printing so powerful: performance is built from the inside out. Every layer, parameter, and material choice directly impacts mechanical properties, weight, and osteointegration.

How do you approach internal lattice optimization for your critical parts?
Let’s discuss in the comments! 👇

💡 Did you know?

3D printing wasn't created to revolutionize manufacturing. It started with a simple challenge: producing plastic prototypes faster.

In 1983, Charles Hull invented stereolithography (SLA), the world's first 3D printing technology, building parts layer by layer using UV-curable resin.

More than 40 years later, additive manufacturing is transforming industries from aerospace to healthcare.

🚀 Great innovations often begin with one simple question:
"How can we do this faster?"

A simple habit can make a big difference in 3D printing reliability:

👉 Store your filament properly.

Leaving a spool exposed to ambient humidity can affect material behaviour during printing, especially with moisture-sensitive polymers.

A few good practices:
🔹 Keep opened spools in sealed containers
🔹 Avoid unnecessary exposure to air
🔹 Follow recommended drying procedures when needed

Better material handling means more consistent prints.

💡 Medical 3D printing is transforming healthcare… provided these five major mistakes are avoided.

Bespoke prostheses, complex surgical guides, high-fidelity anatomical models: the clinical opportunities are exceptional!

However, in practice, many projects involving innovative devices fall behind schedule or fail due to technical or regulatory errors that could have been avoided from the outset. In the medical sector, quality, safety and compliance leave no room for improvisation.

🚀 When developing new biomaterials, the question is: "What do users actually need?"

That's why we're asking for your feedback.

We've put together a short carousel introducing the biomaterials we're currently evaluating for our portfolio, from flexible polymers for skin-contact applications to high-performance materials for more demanding medical uses.

If you work in medical devices, additive manufacturing, or biomaterials, we'd love to hear which materials would bring the most value to your projects.

A successful prototype is only the beginning.

The real challenge starts when you need to manufacture the same part reliably, repeatedly, and in compliance with medical regulations.

How do you move from prototype to industrial production?

In our latest article, you'll discover:

✔️ Why industrialization is more than simply producing more parts.
✔️ How the TRL framework structures medical device development.
✔️ Why pilot production is a key milestone before scaling up.
✔️ How 3D printing supports the entire journey: from prototype to industrial manufacturing.

What is a 3D printing filament, and why does it matter?

In FDM 3D printing, the filament is much more than a raw material. It directly impacts the mechanical properties, biocompatibility and performance of the final part, making material selection a key step in every project.

Most products don’t fail in production. They fail at the first prototype.

In fact, around 70% of product cost is locked in during the design phase.

That’s why prototyping is such a critical step in product development, especially in healthcare and engineering.

3D printing makes this stage faster, simpler, and more accessible:

🔹 rapid iteration cycles (5–10 design iterations are common before final validation)
🔹 up to 50–90% faster prototyping compared to traditional methods
🔹 lower development costs
🔹 faster idea validation
🔹 better final designs

We wrote a short article on why 3D printing is ideal for prototyping here:
