Founded in 1986, Domaine de Boisbuchet is an international research center for design and architecture in southwest France.

Le Domaine de Boisbuchet est un centre international de recherche en design et architecture dans le sud-ouest de la France. Since 1990 Domaine de Boisbuchet has been organising interdisciplinary workshops. The courses are offered throughout the summer and are led by renowned designers, architects and artists who work and live together with the participants for a week, to gain insights into the creative process and the challenges involved.

WORKSHOP SEASON 2026 | Ancestral Alchemy: Re-binding the Forest

Glue had always been a quiet but essential material. This workshop proposed to “deconstruct” the forest ecosystem of Boisbuchet and “recompose” it through a new lens, using binding agents developed by our own hands. Participants synthesized and tested bio adhesives made from sodium alginate, rice and starch, experimenting with viscosity, transparency and drying speed to create personal “recipes.”

Glue had always been a quiet but essential material. WORKSHOP SEASON 2026 | Embodied Nature

This workshop explored the concept of Embodied Nature, where creativity developed through direct physical engagement with the natural environment. Guided by Wagner Kreusch and Frida Kim, the workshop focused on working with botanical materials—flowers, branches, leaves, and other organic elements. As these materials shifted, decayed, and transformed, participants engaged with processes of impermanence and change. Through practical explorations and discussions, they reflected on how ephemerality and natural cycles could inform art and design, questioning how transient materials shaped both form and meaning.

WORKSHOP SEASON 2026 | A Dilated House

Traditionally, domestic functions—bedroom, kitchen, bathroom, living room—were compressed into a single volume and oriented according to light and views. In this workshop, this logic was reversed: rather than adapting a building to the site, the building was dissolved into it. The environment itself became the final architectural envelope, filtering light, retaining or releasing humidity, protecting from wind, and warming or cooling depending on location and time. Working across the Domaine de Boisbuchet estate, participants first conducted a climatic study of the site. The workshop culminated in the construction and installation of these dispersed “rooms” across the landscape, forming a dilated house defined not by enclosure, but by climate.

WORKSHOP SEASON 2026 | Clay Grounds

Xavier Mañosa, assisted by Hadrien Venat guided participants in the making of ceramic objects that explored surface, balance, and the possibilities of the horizontal plane. Participants designed pieces conceived as open surfaces, objects that held, supported, or framed what was placed upon them. Particular attention was given to the behaviour of clay when mixed with fibres or other materials that allowed lighter structures and more complex forms. The workshop will culminate in the firing of the pieces in the wood-fired kiln at Boisbuchet, which is inspired by Korean and Japanese traditions.
