Eighty five percent of the brain is formed by age three 🧠 👈🏽 💡 Dr. Maria Montessori wrote that children age three + below have an “unconscious absorbent mind”...

Think of brain cells, or neurons, as small trees. It is these trees, mental constructions + the development of spoken language that show us the fascinating power of the absorbent mind.

As soon as the child is born, the absorbent mind assists them in taking in all of elements of language from their environment :

✔️ They build up the neural pathways in the language areas of their brain
✔️ Coordinate their nervous system for production of unique sounds
✔️ Abstract an entire system for associating sounds with meaning

Therefore, the use of rich language - descriptions and full, real words with your baby from birth, is truly a great gift to them. 💗

In Montessori, we call these ‘pre-writing skills’ because they gently build up hand muscle strength and eye-hand coordination.

Supervised activity from 12-24M 🖐🏾 👌🏼
Try a variety of taste-safe grains, such as porridge oats whizzed up in the blender (DIY sand) or puffed quinoa !

Combine with accessories such as a tray, spoon, bowl, scoop, cup, funnel.

☼ After play, store in a zip-lock bag for several uses ~ or use as garden feed for birds

Montessori students were, on average, a full school year ahead by sixth grade, according to the analysis. 📑 🧠

The most significant gains were in language, math and general academic ability. In nonacademic measures, Montessori students demonstrated stronger executive function, including self-control and working memory, reporting a more positive school experience overall compared to traditional preschool and elementary students.

Nature. Wonder. 🍃

With a bounty of colour and texture, these holiday-inspired stars make for uplifting window or table decor, or an eco-friendly garland. Crafted simply with :

• Dried, pressed leaves
• Décopatch glue / PVA

I’ve also included a traditional paper star (recycled tissue paper).

Children of different ages can be involved in the various stages; leaf gathering and pressing into books, cutting (or folding if you try the origami way), assembling, and pasting with glue. 🤍
