Congratulations to our latest Strasbourg cohort, all of whom completed their Celta successfully!

What happens once the last lesson has been taught? A party!! 🎉 A real " moment convivial" where there are no more trainers, trainees and students - just people who had spent a wonderful (and very eventful!) month together.
Bye-bye everyone, good luck to the newly fledged teachers and see you on November 23 for our last Celta of 2026.

Introducing Lise Bell, one of the two trainers on our extended TYLEC course, starting September 5th online.

Hi! I’m Lise and since 1997 I’ve worked on a range of YL teacher education courses now in a variety of roles - tutor, materials writer, quality assurance assessor and training mentor. I have experience in a wide range of different teaching contexts – sometimes working directly in-country and sometimes working remotely. I love being able to work with teachers from different contexts and help to support them to develop their skills by adding new techniques and strategies to their existing teaching toolkit.
Of all the training work I do, working on courses for primary teachers is probably the one that I love the most. Apart from all the great opportunities they offer for making colourful, fun materials, singing and reading picturebooks, I find that observing classes of primary learners is never boring. Working with children, there are always surprises you don’t expect. I will never forget observing a class of Vietnamese primary school children - who were particularly challenging to manage in terms of behaviour – completing a reading challenge designed to practise reading skills. The children had to walk around the room and read cards with instructions to “Do 10 star jumps” or “Bounce the ball on the spot for 30 seconds” and follow the instructions to complete the task. It was one of the funniest lessons I’ve ever observed – watching the children completing the tasks. The children were SO focussed on completing the task that they completely forgot to misbehave. So in the end it was a win-win – the teacher achieved his learning aims and the children were extremely motivated to develop their reading skills. This always reminds me that one of the keys to effective YL teaching is learning how to find the ‘hook’ that will motivate the children to complete activities in English so that the teacher can achieve their teaching aims. This is something we explore in the TYLEC course along with looking at a range of practical activities and teaching techniques to promote language skills development with different age groups of young learners.
