One learning objective for this year's conference is what to do when a client is not engaging (sometimes referred to as “treatment resistance”).
The premise of the October 9 program is that “resistance” generally describes something about the relationship rather than something about the client, and that the barriers producing it are typically not things either person is consciously aware of. They tend to be developmental, cultural, and status-related, and they include the lifestyle patterns the clinician carries into the room alongside the client's.
Adam Arnold, MA, LMFT, LADC and Dr. Marina Bluvshtein, Ph.D., LP, MA LMFT will cover where those barriers come from and how they present clinically, then move into barriers-focused case evaluation and specific interventions. Demonstrations and group work help bring the theory to life in a practical way.
