Hi! I’m Lydie. English teacher in the South-West of France, I’m the founder of . I created this book club because I believe that one of the best ways to improve your English is to read, talk, share ideas… and have a good laugh! I’m passionate about literature, and I particularly love discovering and discussing works written by women.

Currently, I run three book club groups:

📍 CRÉON (Gironde)

No matter which group you join in, it works the same:

📚 Read and discuss literature in English

You don’t need to be a perfect English speaker (although these book clubs are not for beginners).

This is it, our book club members have voted! 🗳️

From September to December 2026, the Bordeaux Book Club will read and discuss There Are Rivers In The Sky by (2024).

This novel has been suggested by one of our members who has already read the book but she’s actually happy to re-read (and rediscover) it again. 🥰

As I will be reading the book simultaneously, I cannot give you a more personalised presentation, so here is below a general summary of the book :

The novel follows three characters: Arthur Smyth, an urchin (child living the street) in Victorian London who becomes a skilled Assyriologist (someone studying ancient cultures in the Middle East) ; a Yazidi girl named Narin living in Turkey in 2014; and Zaleekhah Clarke, a hydrologist who lives on a houseboat in London in 2018. All three characters are connected by their interactions with a single drop of water.

Saturday 18th July we had the immense pleasure to chat with , author of Our Last Wild Days, the online group latest read. For about an hour, members of the group but also from LBC community had the opportunity to share their views on the book and ask questions to Anna. After the conversation some members admitted that they were a little bit stressed to speak, but in the end they really enjoyed the exercise and were proud to have done it.

I really do hope you’ll enjoy this format, it was the very first time at LBC that we were able to discuss live with the author of a book that we had read with the online group. I can only hope this will be the start of many other conversations like this, online and in-person. 🥰

September is almost here, and so is a brand-new season of reading, conversation, and connection at Lydie’s Book Club!

From September to December 2026, we’ll spend 8 sessions exploring two wonderful novels:
📖 The Correspondent by Virginia Evans
📖 There Are Rivers in the Sky by Elif Shafak / Elif Şafak

Yes, two of our groups chose the same book! I cannot wait to hear what they have to say about it and how they will experience the deeply moving story of Sybil Van Antwerp.

Face aux incendies qui touchent actuellement notre territoire, les sapeurs-pompiers et les équipes mobilisées sur le terrain ont besoin de notre soutien.

📍 La Mairie de Sadirac ouvre un point de collecte de dons à partir de lundi.

Les besoins prioritaires :
💧 Eau
🥤 Boissons énergisantes
🥣 Barres céréalières
🧴 Produits d'hygiène (savon, shampoing, rasoirs, mousse à raser, dentifrice, brosses à dents, protections hygiéniques, lingettes, baume à lèvres...)
😷 Sérum physiologique et masques FFP2

🕘 Collecte aux horaires d'ouverture de la mairie :
• Lundi : 9h00 - 12h30 / 13h30 - 19h00
• Du mardi au vendredi : 9h00 - 12h30 / 13h30 - 17h00
• Fermée le jeudi matin

Les dons seront acheminés selon les consignes transmises aux collectivités.

L'internat du lycée de Créon accueille actuellement des résidents d'EHPAD évacués.

Malheureusement dû aux fortes chaleurs de ce mardi, la sortie à Eymet est annulée et reportée à une date ultérieure (probablement au mois d’octobre, normalement pas de canicule 😬🤞). Dès lors que la nouvelle date sera fixée, je ne manquerai pas de vous en informer!
