🌱 As spring draws to a close, so does the helleborus seed harvest season.

While this year's harvest is nearing completion, we are already preparing the next generation of hellebores destined for growers around the world.

After pollination, the flowers develop seed pods that gradually mature before naturally opening to release their seeds. In the wild, these seeds simply fall to the ground and self-sow around the mother plant. In professional production, however, every step requires precision to ensure seed quality, varietal purity, and consistent performance.

Since the acquisition of Aad Koen at the end of 2023, we have successfully integrated helleborus seed production into our long-standing expertise in breeding and seed harvesting.

Today, our assortment includes 6 species and more than 30 varieties, featuring the commercial ranges SNOYA® (Helleborus niger) and GRØØVE® (Helleborus orientalis), alongside botanical species including Helleborus argutifolius, H. foetidus, H. lividus, and H. × sternii. This broad genetic portfolio allows us to meet the needs of growers looking for both market-driven varieties and distinctive landscape plants.

Launched last year, our range of Helleborus orientalis GRØØVE® confirms its strong potential as a robust and profitable option for landscaping and outdoor planting. Beyond its ornamental value, GRØØVE® delivers the consistency, resilience, and ease of production growers expect.

• Compact, well-balanced plants with outstanding uniformity
• Very wide colour palette: white, red, pink, spotted and a selection of double flowers
• Near-100% flowering in the first year (seed-propagated variety)
• Flowering period from January to March
• Evergreen foliage • Hardy and cold-resistant down to –15 °C / 5 °F
• Low maintenance and easy to grow, prune, and manage

GRØØVE® combines diversity, performance, and reliability, making it a strategic choice for growers targeting professional landscaping, municipalities, and retail-ready winter programmes.

🌱 Seed harvest season is at its peak in our cyclamen greenhouses.

Right now, our teams are carefully harvesting cyclamen seeds by hand, a precise and essential step that takes place directly in our production greenhouses in Fréjus, France.

Each mature fruit is individually collected at the perfect stage to ensure optimal seed quality. The seeds are then delicately extracted, cleaned, and prepared for the next stages of processing.

These images offer a behind-the-scenes look at this important moment of the season, and highlight the meticulous work carried out by our production teams every day.

A big thank you to all our teams for their dedication and careful work in helping provide high-quality seeds to our customers worldwide 💚

Ever wondered how a new cyclamen variety becomes part of the Morel collection?

Everything begins at our headquarters in Fréjus, South of France, where our breeding team develops and evaluates thousands of new cyclamen seedlings each year. From the earliest stages, only the most promising young plants move forward.

🌱 Step by step, each future variety is challenged and observed:
• Evaluation in real production conditions
• Assessment of uniformity and genetic stability
• Disease resistance and adaptability testing
• Outdoor and climate trials in multiple regions worldwide
• Cold and heat tolerance validation

As selections advance, propagation and production trials continue over several years. Only a very small number will eventually stand out for their:
• Exceptional ornamental appeal
• Strong performance and reliability
• Uniform flowering and growth habit
• High production value
• Resilience under demanding conditions

🤝 This process is carried out together with our trusted partners and trial networks around the world, ensuring every introduction delivers true value for growers, retailers, landscapers, and gardeners alike.

And when one hybrid finally checks every box (performance, innovation, beauty, and market relevance), it earns its place within the Morel collection, with a dedicated identity and launch prepared for the market.
