News from the Enchanted Circle Retreat 💖

We're halfway through the journey, and here's an update from the crossing.

The travelers have set off and have already experienced many wonders — soundscapes, waves of music, the call of sirens in the distance over Lake Devesset... There's still a whole path to sail before reaching the other side... and who knows what the adventurers will bring back in their bags...

Many thanks to the group who traveled to Voci Audaci Festival for The Circlesongs Phenomenon
from Bobby McFerrin to Today (40 years):
A Meeting between Generations, a day of exchange that culminated in the online symposium where they were joined by .mcferrin himself as well as many members of our global community.

We will share more about what was discussed through an upcoming blog post at thewellvocal.com and add the recording of the symposium to the Resources page, available in full to all members 🌎

We’re partnering with the Voci Audaci festival and Oskar Boldre on an online symposium happening on July 15 (next Wednesday) at 6.30pm UTC (8.30pm CEST, 2.30pm EDT), amongts an international group of artist facilitators as well as founding members of Bobby’s Voicestra!

The event is free and open to everyone so feel free to share the registration link online and help us spread the word, more info at The Well: Global Vocal Improvisation Network 🌍

We are immersed in a new musical and social phenomenon. In 40 years, circlesinging has expanded considerably and is becoming a real “new tool” for bringing people together and promoting integration, encouraging a sense of community, as well as being a collective expression tool with short and long-term benefits. Especially in the last two decades, practices have emerged that are gradually transforming Circlesongs. This growth definitely shows that the movement is expanding and thriving. The symposium aims to create discussion and dialogue between different generations of Circlesongs leaders by asking crucial questions, including:

• How could this practice evolve in the coming decades?

• What opportunities are opening up and what risks or challenges require our attention?

• What does it mean for music to be at the centre of the circle?

• Is music the means or the goal? In other words, do we all serve music to lift our spirits, or do we use music as a tool to build relationships?

See you online!

We have a new YouTube interview series - My Life in Improvisation, where we’ll meet the pioneers of our global community!

Here’s a segment of our conversation with David Worm, vocalist, vocal percussionist, songwriter, educator and a founding member of .mcferrin Voicestra. To watch in full, follow the link at

David shares: “You know, Bobby was asked: Are you the originator of this? Are you the keeper of this? (Circlesongs) And he said: No, I’m just a conduit along the way. And he looks at it that way. The music belongs to everyone, and everybody that’s doing their incarnation, variation of it. It’s just furthering it, furthering the joy and the beauty that is unmistakable and undeniable. So, give it away. Give it away now, give it away.”
