is the founder of a studio with an incredible leader. Lianne is passionate about inclusion and inclusive teaching practice. Her passion for development as a teacher shines through and I’m excited to talk to her in our Facebook group about what she has implemented at Dramalam

How you know if someone is listening to you? Is it because they are standing still and looking at you?

I’m going to challenge that and say that it’s VERY likely that if a neurodivergent dancer is giving you eye contact they cannot hear you 👂

Why?! Because they are thinking about looking at you! Let’s make sure we make our classes a safe space to learn and to regulate ✨

If you want to be the teacher who values inclusion and strategies to help regulation check out the link to our CPD courses in the bio 💖

How do you measure success? Are you coming away from classes feeling like you didn’t achieve? Feeling frustrated? Like it’s just not the same teaching these days?

Let’s look at why that might be! We are conditioned to think things must be a certain way, students should stand still and look at us, they should quickly pick up choreo as they get older etc.

These are learning bias and they don’t help you or the students.

If you want to learn more about teaching inclusively comment “INCLUSION” 💖

🧠✨ Dance teaching in 2025 feels different when your brain doesn’t work like everyone else’s. Neurodivergent teachers - I SEE YOU!

The juggle of timetables, admin, students, parents, AND trying to keep your own spark alive can feel overwhelming.

👉 I’d love to know which of these feels most real for you right now:

Do you feel like you wear too many hats as a dance teacher?

We have to keep all our systems up to date, make sure we get social media content, support our students, clean the studio, do all the health and safety stuff and that’s before we even get to the choreo!

Dance teaching has changed massively since I started and I talk about that in this weeks email and how we can help you at The Dance Education Collective. If you’re not on our mailing list the link is in the bio please check it out.

If you feel like you have so many things to do it can impact the way you deliver your classes. What part of your role would you happily give away and what is your favourite thing to do? Tell me below 👇

If you have ADHD and you teach dance here’s something you NEED to know

⭐️ You will be overstimulated
⭐️ You will be overstimulated
⭐️ You will be overstimulated

It’s true, so true infact I had to say it three times!! Being a neurodivergent dance teacher can be really overwhelming so it’s important to look after yourself and protect your energy.

Does the echo of the studio when there’s too much talking bother you? Does someone else playing the music loud bother you? Do you get distracted mid lesson and go off on a tangent? Do you feel like you’re frozen when your to do is list is massive?! Let’s not even talk about the feeling of rejection when someone leaves or complains!

All of these things can cause you massive issues with nervous system regulation and stress, even if you don’t recognise it.

Let me know if you relate to this in the comments 🫶

My top tip is using the physiological sigh a few times before and between classes, breathing really helps me regulate 💖

Struggling with some behaviour presentations in class? Worried about trying to be inclusive but finding it hard to do practically? Are you worried students will leave because of one child’s actions?

Here is what you need to know 👇

ALL BEHAVIOUR IS COMMUNICATION

A lot of dance teachers (and honestly, schools in general) confuse inclusion with simply firefighting behaviours or reacting to meltdowns. But inclusion is proactive, thoughtful, and embedded into your teaching, whereas management is reactive.

🔑Knowing the difference between crisis management and inclusion

Crisis Management is in the moment when a child is distressed, dysregulated, or disruptive of others students learning/enjoyment.

Inclusion happens before the event, we anticipate needs and set up the environment so students can succeed.

Will we always get it right? NO!
Will we always find it easy? NO!
Should we keep trying even when it feels so hard to navigate? YES!

Do you struggle with knowing the difference between inclusion and reacting to the behaviours?

Same syllabus, new teaching method!

All the chaos of returning back to class is settling down and we are back in our comfort zones, I don’t know about you but I’m kind of bored after over 2 decades!

You don’t have to take the same approach to teaching as you always have! If you are a dance teacher delivering syllabus based classes, make sure you check out the link in the bio and join The Dance Education Facebook group for up to date info.

Let’s re-ignite our passion for teaching and avoid burnout 🫶✨

Are you meeting the needs of the students in your classes?

When you don’t invest in your team you will have a higher churn rate of students because they don’t feel seen or connected in your classes.

If you want to reduce the number of students who leave and develop a team that deliver classes aligned with your values then check out our summer studio reset.

The truth is, no one has time to micromanage everyone’s training, especially with bigger teams. This lets your staff dip into what they need, when they need it, with a full season of access and lifetime vault content for support

Who do you have in your dance studio that you couldn’t do without? Who are you grateful for?

I am so grateful for our teaching team.

BUT! sometimes we get so busy just doing all the things that I forget to stop and make sure they aren’t struggling with anything, that their training gaps are being filled and that we are looking after our teachers. If we don’t they can’t deliver the best service to our dancers, if you are burnout and stressed out you can’t engage in a way that really looks after the needs of the students.

That’s why I created The Dance Education Collective, to provide accessible manageable resources to develop teaching beyond a syllabus!

If you have someone you couldn’t do without let’s thank them in the comments 👇
