Featured in The Sunday Times, BBC, and international design media. The Sensory Home® brings sensory design into the mainstream — shaping interiors, products, and partnerships that enhance clarity, calm, and wellbeing. Founded by author and creative director Pippa Jameson, an RHS Chelsea Flower Show Silver Medal winner with 25 years in publishing, television, and brand campaigns, the brand is built on one principle: how a space feels is as important as how it looks. Our work spans bestselling books, flagship paint collections with Graham & Brown, and collaborations with leading brands such as Heal’s and DFS. We also offer advisory for organisations in hospitality, workplace, and education — helping decision-makers integrate sensory intelligence at the highest level of design. Because sensory design is no longer niche. It is the future of interiors.

🌿 Why do some rooms overwhelm us?

It’s not always about clutter or how busy a room looks.

Sometimes it’s the lighting, background noise, too many things competing for our attention, or simply not having enough control over our surroundings.

These are the things I look at when I design or talk about seeing a space through a sensory lens.

Just because a room looks beautiful, it doesn’t always mean it feels good to spend time in.

Good design should consider how we feel, not just how things look.

Have you ever been in a room that looks lovely but doesn’t feel right?

🌿 Nature doing its thing⁣
⁣
I’ve posted quite a few pictures from this family holiday, but I think that’s because the beauty of Wales, and how it made me feel, has stayed with me more than almost any other holiday.⁣
⁣
There were no flash meals, swimming pools or shopping. In fact, it was extremely wet and very cold at times, but we were all completely high on nature.⁣
⁣
It was a multisensory feast: the rich colours, the smell of the wet ground, the quiet apart from the odd bird or sheep, and breathtaking views through thick fog. Just being outside, taking it all in. Nature doing its restorative thing.⁣
⁣
As we slowly move into autumn, I’m looking forward to more of this. ⁣
⁣
Thank you, Wales. 💚

🌟 Colour & Form⁣
⁣
Over the last week, I've been talking about colour, the senses, and how colour affects the way a room feels, so I thought I'd share these little vases I made while developing our Paint for Wellness collection with Graham & Brown.⁣
⁣
I dipped them in the paint and then left them to dry on top of bottles. I rather liked the natural drips they created!⁣
⁣
Why vases? Because paint colour behaves differently depending on the light, and it's much easier to see this on a 3D form than on a flat paint chart. As light falls across the curves, you get areas of light and shadow, giving you a much better feel for the colour.⁣
⁣
If you flick through, you'll see one vase for each paint colour across our five stories: Rest, Focus, Gather, Nook and Create.⁣
⁣
You'll also spot Plover in four of the collections. It is SUCH a good neutral — enough warmth to feel cosy, but not so pale that it loses all sense of colour (Plover is the far right vase in the first image).⁣
⁣
A little reminder when choosing paint colours for your home: never judge a colour from a flat sample alone. Light, shadow and the colours around it can completely change how we experience it.⁣
⁣
Sensory Colour™ in practice.⁣

🌟 5 THINGS THAT CAN CHANGE HOW A COLOUR FEELS⁣
⁣
Why does a colour you love sometimes feel completely different once it’s on the wall? There are a few things I always consider when choosing colour.⁣
⁣
01 — LIGHT⁣
Where is it coming from?⁣
⁣
02 — SURROUNDINGS⁣
What colours and materials sit beside it?⁣
⁣
03 — FINISH⁣
Matt, eggshell or gloss?⁣
⁣
04 — TIME OF DAY⁣
Morning light or evening light?⁣
⁣
05 — SENSORY LAYERS⁣
What else are your senses experiencing as colour never exists in isolation.⁣

🌟 After more than 25 years working in interiors, my work looks quite different today. ⁣
⁣
The Sensory Home® sits at the centre of everything I do — from sensory design consultancy and writing to commercial product development, creative direction, talks and collaborations.⁣
⁣
I was diagnosed as autistic four years ago, and I'm also dyslexic, which makes writing books even more challenging! My diagnosis gave me a much better understanding of my own sensory responses, especially some of my behaviours as a child, and brought together so many things I'd noticed throughout my career.⁣
⁣
Writing The Sensory Home was a big part of that.⁣
⁣
Today, one of the most rewarding parts of my work is consulting primarily across charity, education and retail, looking at spaces and environments through a sensory lens.⁣
⁣
Next year, we'll also be taking another big step into product development, working with brands to bring sensory design into people's homes on a much bigger scale.⁣
⁣
The projects can look very different, but they're all connected by the same methodology: Good design should consider how we feel, not just how things look.⁣
⁣
Our mission has remained the same from the very beginning: bringing sensory design into the mainstream.

🌟Colour and The Senses

Colour is often one of the first things we think about when decorating a room. But rather than starting with what colour do I like? I start with a different question:

How do I want to feel in this space?

Do I need to rest, focus, gather, retreat or create?

From there, I look at the room including the light, materials and surrounding colours, as they all affect how a colour feels within a space.

This thinking underpins The Sensory Home® paint collection with with colours grouped around how we use and experience our spaces: Focus, Gather, Rest, Nook and Create.

Because colour isn’t just about how a room looks. It’s about how it feels.

It’s been a long and lovely summer, designing, styling and writing about some gorgeous sensory spaces.

I marked the end of today with a glorious swim in the sea. Feeling ready for autumn and some exciting new projects.

I hope you all had a lovely bank holiday weekend.

🌿 Does your home give you what you need?⁣
⁣
We spend a lot of time thinking about how our homes look. But I’m far more interested in how they make us feel.⁣
⁣
Does your home help you switch off? Can you focus when you need to? Does it feel comfortable, uplifting, calm?⁣
⁣
Light, sound, colour, texture and even the things we surround ourselves with are constantly being processed by our senses.⁣
⁣
Sometimes the simplest place to start is just to notice. Sit in the room you use most and ask yourself:⁣
⁣
What can I see? What can I hear and what can I feel? You might be surprised by what you notice. ⁣
⁣
🌿 I’m sharing more simple ways to understand how your home is affecting the way you feel in The Sensory Home newsletter.⁣

🌿 Visual Learning

This room started life as a playroom. Today, it’s an art studio by day and a snug by night.

One of the biggest design decisions was covering an entire wall in natural cork from

Yes, it’s a commitment because it’s fixed to the wall, but we knew it would be used for years to come.

One thing I’ve learnt about sensory design is that the best design decisions solve more than one problem. This wall creates somewhere to pin artwork, process revision notes and develop ideas.

As a visual learner myself, I know I understand information better when it’s out in front of me rather than hidden away in a folder..

The cork also helps dampen sound, making the room feel quieter, while its natural texture adds warmth and strengthens the connection to nature that runs throughout the space.

Thank you to for helping bring this idea to life.

🌿 What do you think?

🌿 Would you wallpaper your ceiling?

It’s probably not the first place you’d think to add a mural…

But for this project, it made perfect sense.

The brief was to transform a children’s playroom into a teenager’s art studio by day and a snug by night. Most importantly, it needed to feel calm and connected to nature.

Rather than leaving the ceiling plain white, we chose Whispering Grove by

Looking up, you’re surrounded by trees, water and greenery, bringing nature into the room in an unexpected way.

And let’s be honest… teenagers spend a lot of time lying on the sofa, so why not give them something beautiful to look at?

The walls are painted in Uluwatu Green from the Paint for Wellness collection by × , creating a calm backdrop for the space.

Sometimes it’s the unexpected design decisions that make the biggest difference to how a room feels.
