Okay so, people always ask how I eat so much and stay lean…
Here’s what’s actually going on:
1. My energy output is high.
Lifting plus running and cycling can add 1000 - 2000 kcal+ a day on top of baseline. What looks like a huge intake is often just maintenance.
2. Muscle costs energy to keep.
More lean mass means a higher resting burn. I grew more muscle so I just burn more calories at rest.
3. Trained muscle handles carbs differently.
Regular cardio training increases insulin sensitivity, so glucose gets pulled into muscle and stored as glycogen instead of being pushed toward fat storage. A sedentary person eating the same carbs has a much smaller “tank” to fill.
4. Carbs are the performance fuel.
Yes protein is VERY important (I eat about 180-200g/day), but hybrid training also drains glycogen fast. Higher carb intake keeps session quality up, which keeps output (and recovery) high.
5. Fat gets kept to what I need.
Fat is the easiest way to overshoot on calories without noticing, and dietary fat is stored very efficiently. I prioritise whole foods that contain very low fat, as opposed to “packet food” that is the complete opposite.
On a day where I eat 3800 calories, my macro split would be around 200g P / 600g C / 70g F
