Women in STEM Statistics!

‘STEM’ stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths. Globally, women obtain 53% of STEM university degrees (Sirimanne 2019), but in the EU only 34% of graduates in the field are women (Girls Go Circular 2022).

Happy STEAM DAY!

Women in STEM - Empowering and encouraging high school girls to be a part of the movement to increase female representation in STEM.

In 2017, Women in STEM was founded at the University of Chicago Lab Schools as a mechanism to bridge the gap between social justice and academic fields. Recognizing the issue was the foundation for our work that followed.

💯 The PhysicsKIT4STEM consortium participated in the final meeting of the Erasmus+ KA2 School project: PhysicsKIT4STEM: Promoting gender-balanced STEM education through DIY kits for teaching physics in the classroom.

👩‍💻 The aim of the project is to improve the quality of teaching in STEM education through a hands-on approach involving the use of DIY kits, electronics, programming and a Raspberry Pi computer to teach physics. In addition, the project advocates gender-balanced STEM classrooms and aims to pique the interest of students, and more specifically young girls, to science and engineering subjects.

👉 During the meeting, all pending tasks were discussed and finalised and the preparation for the pilot testing phase will begin shortly after the summer holidays!

🙏A big thank you to the coordinator of this project ECAM EPMI Graduate School of engineering (France) as well as the rest of the partners for their cooperation Pistes Solidaires (France), Asserted Knowledge - AKNOW (Greece), Atermon (Netherlands), Emphasys Centre (Cyprus) and of course our host Scholé (Portugal).

Partner catch-up meeting!
The PhysicsKIT4STEM consortium met up online on the 31st of March to discuss the projects progress!
The finalisation of the lesson plans were discussed, the teachers' handbook and.... more exciting new the development of the platform has begun!
