Imagine that God dwells atop a mountain.
People climb the mountain in search of God at the summit. There are many paths to the top and some choose to travel alone and others with a group.
It is up to each of us to find our way to him by the means that feels right to us. It is a very high mountain, with many lower peaks below and out of sight of the summit where large camps of people live, claiming to have found God. But it’s just a false summit.
Some people have been to the summit and are roaming the mountain in search of others to show them the way. Some are roaming the mountain claiming to know the way to the top, yet only know a false summit.
Still others have never been to any summit (and they know it) yet charge great amounts of money claiming to know the way to the top but never lead anybody anywhere, they just wander around aimlessly telling interesting stories and theories.
God is transmitting the directions to everybody, only he whispers quietly into everybody’s hearts. But not everyone is listening. In fact, most people are so busy discussing the right way or the wrong way there, that they cannot hear the directions. But they are there for anybody who truly desires to listen.
The way up will be different for every individual, depending where they are on the mountain, or from which point they started at the foot of the mountain.
Some were born on the mountain in one of the camps on the lower peaks, to lone travellers or in small groups.
They often continue living on the mountain to a certain age but many wander off and find their own paths, and others decide they don’t think God is up there at all so go back down to the foot of the mountain to pursue interests elsewhere.
There are many people at the foot of the mountain – some of these haven’t realised that God is atop this mountain and see no point in climbing it. They either stay down in the valley and never attempt to climb any mountain, or wander off to climb one of the other two mountains: Mind, and Body. Some of these people are satisfied with the thought that God is there atop that mountain, but see no point in going up there to see him.
But the truth is that the final path to the summit to God is a narrow singletrack trail and you can only traverse it alone.
What has your journey been on this mountain? And where are you now? I'd love to know.
