The Classification of Graves.

The current production is of 75000 hl's with more than 1750 hectares of land under cultivation out of which 80% of red and 20% white.Just located on the outskirts of city family owned and run Chateaus with respect to nature.The Graves region takes its name from its stony terrior. The main white wine varieties are Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon for the white wines (followed by Muscadelle and Sauvignon Gris) and the main red wine ones are Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, complemented by Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc, depending on the estate.
A jury was composed of professionals appointed by the INAO and in January 1953, the INAO enacts the new Graves classification for red and white wines and publishes a list of 16 Graves estates.The new A.O.C of Pessac-Leognan was born in 1987 in very old region of Graves.Now it includes 71 chateaux and Domain split between 10 commune.

60 GRAND CRUS CLASSES MEDOC 1855
Napoleon III demanded for Classification of Bordeaux at the time of universal exhibition in 1855 he listed 61 Grand Crus Classes out of which 60 were from Medoc. This 60 master pieces are the state-of-art over 150 years.Redefining the very notion of perfection, these outstanding elixirs are the most famous wines throughout the world.
In Medoc it exist 8 prestigious appellations which in all cover 16500 hectares of vines which reveals the magnificent facets of its unique character.

MEDOC- An area of endless flavours.
Situated in the north of Medoc AOC offers an infinite tasting pleasures.In there younger days they reveal all the elegance of delicate bouquet and as it gets older it evolve into a perfect balanced full body.

SAINT-ESTEPHE - Very tannic in the early ages which gradually transform with roundness and fruitiness that bring infinite touch and smoothness.

PAUILLAC- In an extraordinary,sensorial journey this wines will never reveal all their secrets this fascinating mystery delivery all its complexity intermingling delicate aromas and a harmonious bouquet.

SAINT-JULIEN - The soil of this appellation just produce exceptional wines.Full bodied,draped and velvet color with hint of amber which exhibits delicious and remarkably fine flavours.

LISTRAC-MEDOC - Lively and Brilliant,generous and fine, and extra ordinarily long lived all of this qualities are associated with this appellation.Merlot is main vine varietal planted on richer clay limestone soils which impart fruitiness and richness.

MOULIS EN MEDOC - Each sip of Moulis,powerful and yet elegant is a sheer delight for the palate.

MARGAUX - Charm and subtle aromas in an harmonious combination of rich tannins and infinite suppleness.Smooth and silky when young this incredible appellation reveals incomparably fine,mellow flavors with passing years.

Bordeaux - The intermediating name in the world of wine.What makes this wines so unique?What is the history behind the beautiful Château's? To un reveal this mystery we visited some of the legends.
To understand this prestigious wine producing region three simple mysteries have to be solved.
1) History of this hidden place - Around 50 million years ago the Aquitaine bassin was a vast tropical sea. Throughout millions of years the surging water drained vast quantities of sediments which gradually accumulated to form soil and sub soil.
The soil mostly consist of sand,gravel,clay, limestones and pebbles usually called gravel,clay and limestone terroir ideally suited for winemaking to produce distinctive character and exceptional quality.
2) Sun,Sea and Sky - Nestled between Atlantic and Gironde estuary benefits from temperate climate particularly favourable for vines. Relatively forming warm, humid climate with good amount of sun and cool breezes this unique climatic variation is essential for crafting of great vintages.
3) Blending - The secret of blending of several different grape varieties is one of the major factor which was started here. This makes the wines rich, diverse and pleasurable to drink.
The major grape varieties are :-
Cabernet Sauvignon - Finesse, Complexity and great ageing potential.
Merlot - All round fruity,fresh and mellow.
Cabernet Franc - Richness of bouquet and its brilliant colour.
Petite Verdot - Small quantity adds vivacity to the wines.
Well Malbec and Carmenère varieties little used generally add some interesting touch.So if you are drinking red bordeaux you are most probably drinking this varietals.

Alsace making wines in the heart of France but still has the spirit of Germany.Separated by Rhine river to the north (Bas-Rhin) and Vosges mountain to the south (Haut-Rhin).
Alsace is divided in to three different AOCs.
Alsace AOC 74% production
Crémant d'Alsace AOC 22% production
Alsace grand cru classé 4% production with only 51 Grand cru plots.
The noble grape varietals used in here are.
Riesling
Pinot Gris
Muscat
Gewürztraminer.

Wouldn't you like to know how much grapes you are consuming in form of wine??Here have a little peep in to your glass!!
75 grains of grapes = 1 bunch of grape
1 bunch of grapes = 1 glass
5 glass = 1 bottle
12 bottles = 1 case
25 cases = 1 barrel ( Bordeaux Barrel)
1 barrel = 30 vine
200 vine = 1 acre
1 acre =5 tonnes of grapes.
