As the Mediterranean season approaches, April is shaping up to be a key month for crew preparing to enter the industry or take the next step in their yachting careers. Seascope France will be running a full schedule of essential entry-level and progression courses, designed to give crew the practical skills and certifications required on board.
For those just starting out as stews or deckhands, the Basic Food & Beverage Service and Yacht Deckhand Courses on 2–3 April provide a solid introduction to life on board. These courses focus on the day-to-day expectations of junior crew, helping candidates build confidence and understand professional standards from the outset.
Navigation training also features prominently this month. The RYA Powerboat Level 2 course (6–7 April) is ideal for beginners looking to gain their first licence and handle small vessels safely. Crew looking to progress further and take on more responsibility can continue with the RYA Day Skipper course (8–11 April), which develops the skills required to plan and execute passages and command larger boats.
For deckhands and water sports enthusiasts, the PWC (Jet Ski) course will run on 8, 22, and 29 April, offering the certification often required to operate jet skis on board. This remains a valuable addition to a deckhand’s CV, particularly on yachts with active guest programmes.
Those planning to begin a professional career at sea can join the STCW Basic Safety Training (13–17 April). As a mandatory certification for all crew, this course covers essential safety procedures including firefighting, sea survival, first aid, and personal safety responsibilities.
Finally, for those progressing in the engineering department, there is one remaining place on the AEC2 (Approved Engine Course 2) running from 27 April to 1 May.
