Applications for the 2025 Feltmakers Hat Design Competition are open until March 1st!
The competition: design a hat using felt that can be replicated in a workroom. We do not require it to be made out of 100% felt. It should fit a standard 57cm head size.
The prizes:
1st prize - £1500 and two weeks work experience with established milliners
2nd prize - £1000
3rd prize - £750
Plus minor prizes of £250 will be awarded for Artwork and Presentation, Craftsmanship and Innovative Use of Felt.

An abstract landscape in progress. This piece has been loosely inspired by a photograph.
My student is using silk chiffon and silk fabric as well as pre dyed fabric to incorporate with the merino wool fibers.
It’s always interesting to se how the piece unfolds

Elspeth is creating her first nuno felt scarf using silk chiffon merino wool and prefelt.
Elspeth has added additional surface decoration with a blended wool and mohair.
Prefelted squares will also be added to the mix.

Getting everything ready for my next Nuno Felt workshop in France from July 25 - July 27th.
It’s exciting to be teaching nuno felted textiles again a passion of mine that started 20 years ago.
I plan to launch further dates in the year

In 2017 we visited Rajasthan in India and spent 6 weeks exploring the area.
We had the opportunity to attend a 3 day block printing workshop in Bagru a village know for its block printed textiles.
It was an incredible experience to spend time with the block printers and to watch them work and learn the process ourselves

We feel fortunate to have these wonderful views on our doorstep.
We are about 45 minutes from the Pyrenees with incredible views. It’s an ever changing landscape through the season’s on a clear day we have panoramic views of the Pyrenees.
