It was Open Day at the International Bilingual School of Provence (IBS) and it was a success!!! My heart is full of gratitude for the school community I work with, especially my students who dare to dream, believe and work hard!

Our Pre-International Baccalaureate 1 (9th grade) students @ibsofprovence successfully completed a drawing unit inspired by @petsrockworld art while learning about #popart and #popculture . What a fun way to develop #realisticdrawing while expanding our knowledge of #arthistory ! 01/10/2024

The Power of Storytelling 23/10/2023

Revisiting my blog page and getting ready to publish again soon! 😊✨

The Power of Storytelling Each one of us has a unique path that brings us to where we are today. The stories I was told by my family, the stories I tell my children, and the storytelling instructional strategies that I use in my art lessons reflect the desire to add something beautiful and useful to the world.

I LOVE our Art Show!!! Thanks to the work of our super art department (four teachers) and the support of administrators and staff at the International Bilingual School of Provence (IBS), we are able to showcase about a hundred pieces of art created by students from 6th to 11th grade, including fashion and costume design, graphic design, comic book design, street art, museum/installation curator models, journaling, illustration, painting, sculpture, architecture, photography and thematic portfolios! It has sparked wonderful conversations around art techniques and media, art history, activism, self-expression, just to name a few. What makes me smile even more is seeing the students proudly talking about their work to friends, teachers and family members. Like Romero Britto once said, “Art is too important not to share.” 😊

Returning to school today after our spring break could not have been any sweeter. An art teacher from Berlin, Germany came to observe my class as part of the , an European professional-development program that enables teachers to learn from each other across borders. Her presence in the classroom was so wonderful! She even brought me some German chocolates as a token of gratitude! 😊❤️

Today I found an oil pastel painting that I created in 1994, the year I started my studies at the University of Lisbon (I let you do the math…). It was curious to realize that the painting I’m currently working on has a similar central element: a blue contorted torso or trunk. Both pieces are self-portraits, illustrating two different states of mind. One depicts a geometric, almost defeated creature struggling between a dualistic view of the world (angel/demon, right/wrong) and one that is organically untwisting, releasing old ways of thinking and living life, expanding. The surroundings are now warmer, safer, holistic, and interpreted with the heart. What a discovery!!! 💙

Sometimes, all you need is to reconnect your heart to who you truly are for life to unfold itself with grace and simplicity… I find that only in gratitude I am happy because I don’t desire anything else to fulfill me. I came here today to thank you for being part of this journey through your presence, words of encouragement and wisdom. My work as an art teacher has been developing in a direction I never dreamed of. I will have to come back later to tell you all about it. In the meantime, be well, be happy, be you. 🥰

I really don’t know how to express it better than painting my soul out… Left my homeland (again) with an achy heart but the eyes full of blue and green. After rewatching vacation reels .stranger.in.paradise (personal account), I took a few hours today to create this painting, starting with the canvas covered in the color of ‘saudade’ (purple). Nothing compares to experiencing in person, but this is what I can do for now: see it from the inside out.
