sicians from Italy and Estonia in such a scenic location. FIMM was born thanks to the cooperation of the highest Faroese cultural representatives. The classical music event will take place in connection with the annual Summartónar 2014 (June 10th - August 24th), a Faroese contemporary music festival led by the composer Kristian Blak. FIMM is dedicated to advanced students and professional instrumentalists of the Faroe Islands and the Nordic countries, as well as to young musicians from all Europe. The musical interchange between North and South is an important subject for this first edition of the FIMM, and it will be heard in the programmes of the three final concerts of the festival. The 7-day FIMM Festival taking place in the second half of August 2014 (18th-24th) consists of creating an innovative and unique Orchestra Academy with an intent of providing the participants with an accurate and conscious preparation for becoming first-rate orchestra instrumentalists and also approach the world of auditions in a more responsible way throughout their orchestral careers. This “journey” is often underestimated by young music students, because they employ all their energy to improving their skills as soloists, not keeping in mind, that being part of an orchestra needs specific competencies and attitudes which can be learned and improved. FIMM’s purpose, therefore, is to raise this awareness, which will be developed during the week through masterclasses and workshops held by 5 excellent tutors, concertmasters and leaders of some of the most important European orchestras, such as

The masterclasses and workshops of the FIMM will culminate in two concerts dedicated to chamber music, during which repertoire from each represented country will be performed, and a final concert of the Orchestra of the Festival, conducted by Federico S. Morresi in the auditorium of the Nordic House in Tórshavn.
