On Thursday, September 3, Yap Catholic High School celebrated our annual Mass of the Holy Spirit, a Jesuit school tradition marking the beginning of a new school year. Together as a school community, we prayed for the guidance of the Holy Spirit and for God’s blessing upon our students, faculty, staff, and families throughout SY 2026–2027.

Following the Mass, we were proud to recognize this year’s Jesuit Scholars alongside their families. The Jesuit Scholar Awards are named in honor of the founding Jesuits of YCHS and include a full-tuition scholarship generously sponsored by an anonymous benefactor.

Congratulations to our SY 2026–2027 Jesuit Scholars! May the Holy Spirit continue to guide them -- and our entire YCHS community -- as we begin another year of learning, growth, faith, and service. AMDG!

Fr. Jim Croghan, SJ, superior of the Boston College High School Jesuit Community, recently traveled to Micronesia to facilitate apostolic planning meetings with the Jesuit Community there.

Micronesia is an important mission of the USA East Province, serving the Church and local communities through education, pastoral ministry, and other apostolic work.

In 1995, Dolly Parton started mailing books to children in her home county to inspire children to love reading in honor of her dad, who couldn’t read or write.

That idea extends all the way to Micronesia. Every month, 800 children across Yap State find a book in the mailbox — because of neighbors who fund it, volunteers who run it, and a woman from Sevier County, TN who started it all.

Six students. Six legacies of service. One shared investment in Micronesia’s future.

Among Habele’s 151 tuition scholarship recipients for 2026–27, six students have been selected as memorial scholars
These are special designations within the larger scholarship class. They honor Americans and Micronesians whose lives demonstrated courage, integrity and exceptional commitment to the islands.

Their stories span law and public service, education, medicine, the Peace Corps and person-to-person care. Their names now help six young Micronesians meet the cost of attending the schools their families have chosen.

A memorial scholarship looks backward with gratitude—and forward with confidence.

The students still do the essential work. Their families continue to contribute toward tuition. Individual donors provide the practical help that brings those efforts together.
