The Pacific Network on Globalisation (PANG) stands in solidarity with West Papuaโ€™s call for self-determination.

May 1, , we remember, we resist!

63 years ago today, on May 1, 1963, the United Nations Temporary Executive Authority (UNTEA) transferred administrative control of West New Guinea to Indonesia.

Merdeka Papua! We persist! Freedom now, no more delay!

๐Ÿ“ข : Although French authorities have confirmed that provincial elections will be held by the end of June 2026, the situation in Kanaky New Caledonia requires continued vigilance.

These elections must take place no later than 28 June 2026, in order to restore institutional stability and legitimacy, and to bring an end to a period of serious democratic uncertainty.

We call for strengthened regional solidarity across Oceania, grounded in our shared histories of decolonisation and our collective aspiration for a true โ€œOcean of Peace,โ€ where the sovereignty and self-determination of all peoples are fully respected.

The future of Kanaky New Caledonia is inseparable from this shared vision of dignity.

We therefore urge France to honour its decolonisation commitments and to respect the history and aspirations of Pacific peoples and nations.

The NGO Coalition on Human Rights (NGOCHR) and our allies express deep disappointment and serious concern at the range of proposals attributed to the Great Council of Chiefs in submissions to the Constitution Review Commission. We call on all leaders and institutions to approach these discussions with care, responsibility, and a firm commitment to protecting the rights of all people in Fiji.
