Last weekend, my team and I joined our Division of Estates and Facilities staff for a clean-up at our Pacific Centre for Maritime Studies (PCMS) Campus.
It was a wonderful opportunity to work alongside the team who quietly and consistently ensure that our campuses remain safe, clean, functional, and welcoming for our students, staff, and visitors. Their work often happens behind the scenes, yet it is essential to the daily life of our University.
To the Division of Estates and Facilities thank you for your hard work, commitment, and pride in caring for our campuses. All your efforts do not go unnoticed.
The day was made even more special as we celebrated the birthday of one of our staff members, Ronald. Happy Birthday, Ronald. Thank you for your service to FNU, and I wish you good health and happiness in the years ahead.
Moments like these remind us that FNU is more than a university, we are a vuvale.
Vinaka vakalevu, team.

The greatest strength of our University is not our buildings or programmes, but our people.
Last week, I had the pleasure of sharing a cup of tea with students from the Pacific Centre for Maritime Studies (PCMS) and the College of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences (CMNHS).
In the midst of busy days and full schedules, it was wonderful to simply sit together, talk, laugh and listen.
Moments like these remind me that a university is more than classrooms and qualifications. It is about people, connections and the relationships we build along the way.
Our students are at the heart of everything we do, and I look forward to visiting other campuses in the coming months and sharing a cup of tea with many more students across our FNU Vuvale.
Sometimes, the most meaningful conversations begin with a simple cup of tea.

Last night, I was honoured to join the Lupus Foundation of Fiji in celebrating its 7th Anniversary Dinner alongside members of the Fiji National University team.
The evening was a powerful reminder of the courage and resilience of lupus warriors and their families. Their stories highlighted not only the challenges of living with an often invisible disease, but also the urgent need for greater awareness, early diagnosis, support services and research.
As a university, FNU recognises the important role that research plays in improving lives. Through research, education and partnerships, we can contribute to a better understanding of diseases such as lupus, strengthen evidence-based healthcare, and support efforts to improve outcomes for patients and their families.
I commend the Lupus Foundation of Fiji and its founder, Unaisi Tuitubou, for seven years of advocacy, awareness and support, and thank founder Bip Narayan and her dedicated team for ensuring that lupus is no longer invisible.
I also acknowledge the Minister for Women, Children and Social Protection, Honourable Sashi Kiran, for officiating as the Chief Guest and for her commitment to supporting greater awareness, research, and advocacy for lupus in Fiji.
Together, through research, awareness and community support, we can help create a future where every lupus warrior is seen, understood and supported.
